What is the difference?

REtire will dis-assemble the ship at the base and you will gain some technology if it has technology that you have not yet researched. Scrapping the ship gives no technology(I am not sure if one gains resources or not).

My general rule: if it is a colony ship full of bugs, definitely scrap. [;)]

Bugs? What is wrong with bugs? Does my capital count as a colony ship, and if so, how do I scrap it?
