Yarasala -> Find nearest explorer (6/2/2014 8:49:50 PM)

Hello,

I just updated to Universe and began playing again after a not too short pause. At first glance I cannot see a lot of differences in gameplay, but the new weapon effects are nice [;)]

Anyway, I just stumbled about a problem (not Universe-specific): I got intel about an abandoned ship somewhere and jumped to that location. What I wanted to do was then to send the nearest explorer to that location. But as far as I can see one can only select the nearest (arbitrary) military ship, but not a specific ship type. Or did I just forget how that works?
Generally it would be nice to be able to determine the distance between any one ship or fleet and an arbitrary location / object.

x, is the hot-key for explorers and colony ships, not sure if it selects the nearest one. you can tell easily though by staying at far zoom and switching between them there fuel range will be shown from there its your choice which one to send.

On the top left there are a series of buttons, one of them for showing a list of all explorers (or planets, constructors, mines, etc). Left-click on the one you want and if you are zoomed out enough, you will see a blinking circle showing where it is, and then right-click on the location where you want it to go. I think there are other ways, but I am not sure I remember correctly.

Thanks pycco, but that button only selects the "next" explorer, as far as I can see that has nothing to do with distance to the current location.
But the hint with the fuel circles is a good one, although just a workaround with a lot of clicking if you have a lot of explorers ...

Thanks henri51, essentially the same hint as pycco's, but a good one anyway (with the same amount of clicking though [;)])

ya i thought so, at least you can find the closest one 1 billion clicks later.

Well actually yuo do not need to click at all: as you mouse over each item in the list it lights up on the map, so it takes about 3 seconds to find the nearest one.

You could go into the ship screen and filter for exploration ships. It will show where they are on the little map on the right for each one you select, you can use the up and down cursor keys to go through them to see where are in relation to your new found curio.

All that said, a hot key to find the nearest from a point would be great.
