2guncohen -> Pirate - Character ? (6/5/2014 4:59:02 PM)

While making some characters I was wondering what happens when you make someone a pirate leader in your list ?
I looked in the guide but it is not explained in detail.

Will he be working as an independent Pirate for a pirate faction who has the same race as your empire ?
Or as a pirate character who is in your pocket ?

AnddyiRaynor -> RE: Pirate - Character ? (6/5/2014 9:57:37 PM)

They are merely pirates.

Zunos -> RE: Pirate - Character ? (6/6/2014 3:13:18 AM)

I was thinking the same thing. Is it even possible to add variety images of AI pirates?

Yes, as from the modding guide:
The image for each pirate role can be customized (Balanced, Smuggler, Raider, Mercenary). Pirate role images are stored in the pirates subfolder under the images\units\races folder.
Each pirate image file is named by its role. Thus the valid pirate image filenames are:
Balanced.png
Mercenary.png
Raider.png
Smuggler.png

I think Zunos' question was if you could make custom pirates, with unique pics and names.

Which would be way cool.

RESPECTFULLY SPEAKING:
I'm sorry Solarius, I thought I answered the question as he posed it above. About adding "images"
of pirates. But Zunos can respond if I'm incorrect.

In the meanwhile, as far as your statement is concerned, the only way unique portraits and names
for Pirates can be applied in the game is for the Pirate Leader characters. These can be addressed
and modified in each races' character file as shown in the example following.

' Pirate Leaders

1, Khan Noonien Singh, 8, Khan Noonien Singh_Human_Pirate.png, Human, 10, ?, 13, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, 9, 21, ?

From there, the image file 'Khan Noonien Singh_Human_Pirate.png' needs to be in the races' characterImages directory. Hope this answer encompasses everyone's question. Yes Solarius, it IS cool!

The Pirate leader would be the leader in a Pirate custom game, as ehsumrell1 has kindly pointed out, both in definition and method twice.

To make use of the leader you probably would need to make a theme that was made solely for Pirates, editing the races used in the Pirate theme to use the Pirate victory conditions, then starting a custom game as a Pirate empire, so in effect you end up with themes for normal empires and ones for Pirates.

Pure conjecture, as I have never made a Pirate theme but the Pirate Victory conditions do not work for normal races, except for possibly one,

'Eliminate the most Pirate Factions in the galaxy'

So the human faction will not be using => 1, Khan Noonien Singh, 8, Khan Noonien Singh_Human_Pirate.png, Human, 10, ?, 13, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, 9, 21, ?
=> as a Pirate but a Human race Pirate faction will use this character?
Correct ?

Yes, that is correct.

EHSUMRELL1, do you mean as in you assign the human character as a type 9 pirate captain?

ehsumrell1 -> RE: Pirate - Character ? (6/8/2014 4:27:21 AM)

No TJ, a type 8 Pirate Leader. Although remember that a Pirate Leader can be
assigned to a pirate vessel and used like a Ship Captain.

Thank you! Sorry if I made things complicated... :)

You're welcome Solaruis, and no problem. Just trying to accurately answer
questions as they are posed when I have time.
