I had a ship captain 'killed in battle' when their (pirate) ship was retired (at a pirate MSP), which is a curious definition of going down with the ship. EDIT - actually hold off on this one i need to make a direct observation first. I only saw 'after the fact' so I can't be 100% SURE some rogue cruiser didnt come in and blow it up.
