Gregorovitch55 -> Resupply ships - how to keep track of them (6/12/2014 1:20:57 PM)

I seem to be having trouble keeping track of where my resupply ships are located. It's really awkward and time consuming to find them in the quick lists or slog through the main ship listings. Are there any good tricks for keeping tabs on where they are and locating them quickly?

well, personnally i put all my military ships from escorts to capital ships in fleets, so in the military ship list (on the left side of the main screen), there are only the resupply ships and i only have a handful of them (4-8) so i never have trouble to find them.

Besides, i always equip them with long range scanners, so i can also more easily find them by activating the scanner range option in the bottom right of the screen, just above the minimap.

Seriously?

[F11]-> Filter for desired ship type-> Select desired ship-> Click 'Go to ship'-> [Home]

Takes me no time at all. [;)]

It would be super useful for Resupplies to have their own tab on the left, that's for sure.

Sure, agreed. fenrislokison's method obviously works pretty well too.

That's four clicks to find one ship - two too many. To make matters worse it doesn't tell you were the ship is located. You have to backspace to it then close ship listing and scroll out and see were it is. Then you have to go back through F11 to find the others. By which time you've forgotten where the first one was. At least as far as I can see.

Without checking the game, you should have a small map in the ship list where the chosen ship is highlighted.

The long range scanner method is better, as long as you don't strew monitoring stations all over the galaxy. They can also be tricky to spot in colony systems with a scanner on a spaceport, but a system with two long range scanner should be "lighter" on the scanner overlay.

Tehlongone -> RE: Resupply ships - how to keep track of them (6/12/2014 7:31:03 PM)

fenrislokison's way seems nice I'll try that myself. I almost do so already, just have to stop using singular automated patrol vessels but those seem pretty ineffective anyway.

So far I've usually just had most of my resupply ships be in for the very long haul so I know where they are and then use the last 3 hotkeys for the ones I use to coordinate with my primary fleets. Often I place one in my home system just so that I can be SURE that there's a refill waiting for me as opposed to an empty station drained by greedy civilians.

As Tehlongone stated, assigned hotkeys work the quickest if you don't have more than 7 or so in my opinion.
Otherwise, go to the ship menu and select to filter the Resupplyships. The list will contain all your ships
and the system they are in. Yes it is four clicks, but once there hit the 'Go to Ship' or 'Select Ship' button
depending on what you wish to do.

Just sayin'... I play on maps where I have hundreds and hundreds of ships and have no prob at all finding where any of my ships are, IF I don't already remember where they are. In fact, I have always been rather impressed with the game at how easy it is to go to a particular ship of any type. [8|]

I just create single ship 'fleets' with each one. I then rename the fleets to say '1st Resupply Fleet', '2nd Resupply Fleet', etc.

It works very well for quickly spotting them to deploy them or refuel your fleets. I do the same with my transports by creating dedicated 'Invasion Fleets' that have only troop transports. It cuts the micromanagement way down.

I do that too.

Gregorovitch55 -> RE: Resupply ships - how to keep track of them (6/13/2014 6:09:20 AM)

All three ideas (hot key, single ship fleet, long range scanners) are very good - I think I'll try the scanner one first since having scanners on these things looks good in it's own right.

Pilcrow -> RE: Resupply ships - how to keep track of them (6/13/2014 7:00:58 AM)

One quick solution would be to append the class of the ship at the beginning of the name of each ship. This way you can sort them in any ship list. The game does this automatically for escorts, Frigates and destroyers, and I do it manually to the rest of the ships.
