Wheat -> German Air War Understanding Needed (6/14/2014 10:07:20 PM)

Ok, I'm posting screenshots. This is typical btw, turn after turn, that my air units will fly one stupid mission then apparently, they have done their bit for that turn. Why when I try to bomb some additional unit, or the same unit, my planes are "out of range or unavailable". My opponent, the much beloved GamesaurusRex, bombs my hexes repeatedly, like 5 and 6 times. Does the game just like him more than me?

I have red arrows pointing to the airbase, and the hex I wish to bomb, a mere 60 miles away. Why is this going on?

Hmm, only one pick per post. Previous was my air doc settings.

Here is map.

And a squadron in the base.

Are you trying to ground bomb a unit? If that's what you want to do you have to remember, once a unit has flown it cannot participate in a bomb unit mission. So bombing units should be the very first thing you do. Anyway, ground bombing the same unit 5 or 6 times is a little bit overclocked. There's a reason why quite a few experienced guys play with a houserule limiting bombings to one per hex.

swkuh -> RE: German Air War Understanding Needed (6/15/2014 2:51:41 PM)

Might try lowering "% to fly" to, say, 10%, and then "units to fly" to, say, 50 for each attack category of interest.

BTW, can't understand the suggested "house rule" as I've found air attacks are not so useful. Most useful, IMHO, is AI ground support that comes with any attacking play. Don't want to lose that by over attacking by your own hand.

Also, the Stuka's morale is very low. I think there is a formula in the manual to determine whether a given air unit is able to participate in a given air mission based on morale and distance to target.

Is this why it's so difficult to bomb units with the Red Air Force in 1941? I have 40, 50, or even 80 bombers that could do the job and only a small number actually fly. Sometimes only one plane!

wheat, might try setting interdiction real low

jwolf, read somewhere that low red air participation in '41 is hard coded.

Gabriel B. -> RE: German Air War Understanding Needed (6/16/2014 10:39:12 AM)

Stuka normal radius is 12 hexes , with 20 morale you are lucky it flies at all, you can forget about repeated misions and send the airgrup into reserve.

and watch out for combat losses:
50% percent setting means 20 out of 40 aircraft must be combat ready in order to participate .
You have only 14 combat ready aircraft, so the percent needed to fly must be lowered below 35% .

Wheat -> RE: German Air War Understanding Needed (6/16/2014 4:55:09 PM)

Thanks for input guys. Morale of that squadron is 20, but I get no squadrons flying after one mission, others have good morale. So maybe I am unclear on what SigUP is saying, can each squadron only fly one F6 unit bombing mission? I understand that if they do something else they can't then bomb. But if they do even one F6 mission, that's it?

Gabriel, this unit max is 40, but I have only one damaged. It has 14 planes, so, I don't think this applies, or it SHOULDN'T. I can't make the game put 40 planes in this unit.

I talked to Morvael, and he says no, the game does not like GR more than me, it just feels sorry for GR, since he just lost Moscow on Turn 13 and Ivanovo and Yaroslav on Turn 14. [:D]

Well, it does [:D] read the manual , the percent needed to fly is calculated against the max number of autorized planes not the number actualy present .

yes , you probably cant , the stuka B, is out of production before the war begun , if you upgrade to stuka D replacemts problems would be solved.

cato12 -> RE: German Air War Understanding Needed (6/27/2014 4:32:25 PM)

im having some issues manually selecting bombing missions. I remember reading somewhere that staging areas have to be selected, how is this done?
