It's still abstracted, but a bit more complex than that. First of all the unit cannot be cut from supply. Second the repair/reinforce rate depends on supply state (shortage means slower repair speed). Third a unit which has moved or is adjacent to the enemy can only repair +2 strength per turn. In optimal circumstances it is +5 per turn. Destroyed core units can be revived (reformed) at full cost, maintaining 5% of its original experience (and all of the unit's history in the logbook and statistics).
