USXpat -> Falkland Islands 1982 Beta (PBEM only) (6/18/2014 11:16:59 PM)

Attached is a new beta for the Falklands Islands - 1982. It includes the scenario and draft scenario notes.

It is about 100 times smaller than my other projects, but I know far less about the Falklands than WW2. I've talked to a few people who were there, made a quick study of it, and this is what I ended up with. It can be refined.

It was originally designed to run from April 2 to June 14 on bi-weekly turns, but that left the English with nothing to do from Turn 2 to Turn 11 or so. I cut the down-time in half by considering the first 6 turns as weekly given Argentinian generals didn't quite expect the response they got.

The scenario description, victory briefings and scenario notes will get a bit more work, part of this is to promote a book on the Falklands, as a sort of "marketing experiment". I'm not making money off it, just experimenting as my day job concerns helping others monetize mobile apps.

I welcome any feedback, suggestions and ideas on any/all aspects of the scenario from events to TO&E to the map itself.

Things I have no intention to do, at this stage, is implementing any customized TO&E/equipment work or fleshing out the naval component further. These might be possible once there's further confirmation on any update to TOAW - as then the naval model would be much more interesting... and would justify adding corvettes and such.

Thanks!!!

I can ask for PBEM German folks from the SI-Forum, too. Need your approval though.

Thank you, Gentlemen. Most of my game time is still on fixing up/testing 39-45 variants and also having another look at a possible issue with 42-45. Not much play time at the moment, other than playing catch up on the things that need completed. Definitely welcome to float this scenario around, just let them know it's a beta and its open for all manner of input, aside from the two items mentioned earlier.

Just a quick update that a new version of the Falklands War should be finished this weekend or so. This pulls in considerations presented by folks on the Military History and Strategy group on LinkedIn and imo, should make for a much more interesting, short - small scenario. I'll post it here when it is complete.

I'll be looking for two play testers, or one to play both sides. It should only last 16 turns, aiming to complete within 2 - 3 weeks. Would like someone willing to do an AAR.

After that, it looks like one or two very small touches to TR 1942 - 1945 will be made; and then an effort to update the scenario guide.

Playing the rest by ear.

I am happy to play test.

Attached is the Falklands War 1982 Scenario along with the Scenario Guide. Probably place both in Modern: Miscellaneous folder. This is much more developed than the initial beta. Victory briefings could still use some improvement and there's more to add re: credits.

Choowee - Will connect via PM. Thank you for responding!

(Note: Looks like I caught a couple issues before anyone downloaded the initial file.

** Air/Sea/Rail Transport can really boost supply. This is not nearly as noticeable in larger scenarios. )

Update of the Falklands War 1982 Scenario File attached. This factors in all of the issues that arose in the playtest with Stephen, fixing variable Theater Recon, TO's to use helicopters for supply, fixing of issues relating to units using the Exocet missile system, and options for full or limited use of English carriers, plus additional supply penalties for loss of Atlantic Conveyer.

Even with those not working as intended, the playtest seemed to go well.

The scenario guide will be posted in the next message.

It's great that this theater and period have reappeared, I can remember and old COW scenario I ported into TOAW III some four years ago and played a PBEM game of that, but it was never concluded as my UK opponent vanished at some point as far as I can remember. He had said something like "who needs air force in this game" before my Argentinian Skyhawks and Exocet missiles wrecked his naval assets along with elements of combined task group.
