ceitein -> No game saves (6/30/2014 12:53:42 PM)

Hi there, I have installed 2.1, and am now unable to save games. Choosing "Save" results in no btl or other sort of file being saved, and choosing "save as" does not bring up a dialogue box.

Anyone else experience this problem?

Especially if you have multiple installs, and/or depending on how you have achieved your install(s), you must be careful when you do a Save As operation. Inspect the file path!

If the *.btl files (etc.) are not being saved in the top-level game folder, look instead in your top-level My Documents folder. (If you do indeed have more than one install, you might look in the other install folders also, and if need be.) If you find the *.btl files (etc.) there, in My Documents (or wherever), cut-and-paste them into the appropriate top-level game folder, and in future be mindful of your Save As ops.

Thanks Berto,

My install of v2.01 was over an original install of v1.

So it is more likely connected to multiple install versions sitting across my hard drives. I've cleaned them all up and shifted safely into a separate space.

I've searched through folders and no .btl files have been generated at all by 2.01.

Does anyone have any other ideas, to save me doing a re-install?

Before you do a re-install, run this experiment:

  • Launch the game.
  • Select any scenario.
  • Immediately advance to Next Turn.
  • A file save dialog box should open up, prompting you for the name of your save file. Pay special attention to the folder.
  • Continue with the save game operation.
  • Without exiting the game, open up Windows Explorer. Do you see the .btl file in the top-level folder of the appropriate game (e.g., East Front)? Be sure to sort on date if necessary.

You should get positive results. If not, get back to me. If not, if it still fails to save the game, try the "Game (or Editor) Crashes" procedure about assembling, zipping up, and posting the *.log files described here.

    Good luck!

What OS do you have? On my W8, the game saves defaulted first to SkyDrive folder before I manually did a Save As to my game folder.

    Thanks Berto,

I tried your suggestion but it still didn't work.

So I tried something else - I ran the games from the .exe files in their respective folders. Those games could be saved.

So it's only when I run the games from the Matrix launcher box, that the games won't save.

Unless that gives you a great clue about what is going wrong, I'm happy to launch the games using their separate .exe files. At least that works!

    Mark
