PztCrackwise -> Heavy HE round immobilizing tanks over 30m distance! (7/4/2014 12:40:28 PM)

I was playing multiplayer recently. My opponent was firing at some building with his Grille. One of the huge HE shells landed somewhat 30 meters in front of my Churchill and immobilized it. I was shocked!

The heavy HE shells in this game tend to have some random effects. I can understand that when it kills infantry in such distances, since it can be interpreted as sharapnells flying all over the place etc. However, immobilizing a tank at such a distance? There is clearly something wrong here in the code.

I am posting the screenshot of the incident so that you can see it better:

The grille shell is equal to about 150mm. That is massive. Maybe it hit the driver what was his status? driver hit or killed would immobilize it. An HE shell exploding on a road is more powerful than one exploding on grass or mud. Your opponent got lucky or knew what he was doing.

No, he was normally shooting at the building next to the exploded shell.

There is no way for a shell as seen in the screenshot exploding 30 meters away from the tank to hurt the driver, yet alone damage any part of the tank!..

I'm not expert, but I agree it wouldn't damage the tank from that range. Too bad you didn't have the screenshot with the crew status of that particular tank in view. Then we could see if the splash damage did get the driver. Or another possibilty at the same time the Grille shot that HE another tank, AA or AT cannon could have fired at your Churchill and you thought it was from the grille. He could have had a AT gun hidden also somewhere in the bocage to the south west.

i agree with pztcrackwise. theres something wrong. this should never happen at that range....plus theres a building a hedge row and a stone wall in the way of the churchill, but the real point is the distance of the explosion to the tank.

vobbnobb...really?

If that shell was powerful enough to immobilize the tank at such a distance how come the infantry, in the hedge close to it, are not killed, wounded or at least stunned ? Very weird.

That's because they made 50m blast range for 15cm gun.
CC doesn't like such explosion ranges as blast range is not really blocked by the elements and can kill even behind a tall house :).
my small rebalance mod has addressed that issue :) http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=10553&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45

When comparing GTC to CC5 at the same resolutions... 50m in GTC is 79m in CC5. Something to get used to if you play GTC.

how did you find out that proportion?

50m BR in CC5 is an overkill as well...can kill anything behind houses/bunkers.

I don't think it overkill, I think the elements should be blocking blasts like this. In the example above the tank is also behind a stone wall which should protect. 50m in GTC does feel like quite a longer distance than it does in CC5.

it's overkill as elements in CC don't block blast rating :(

Wouldn't protect him if the stone wall was lower than the blast.. The stone walls don't have a height indicator already checked it out long time ago I think all are around half a meter tall. But like I said before we can't see the 3rd tank in this screen cap nor can we see the crew or tank status. They are not highlighted for team info. Since this was multiplayer your opponent could have modified his blast radius file or whatever for his armor to cheat couldn't he? I remember seeing a youtube video i think from TIK about it a while ago when he was playing against someone online.
