Commanderski -> Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/4/2014 1:16:37 PM)

How far along is the testing on the new patch? Really looking forward to it.

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/4/2014 1:38:38 PM)

Haven't heard from the guys about real problems or bugs in the patch for a week or so. There are heated debates about balancing some aspects of the game. I'm halfway through writing the change log. I don't know the status of data files update by Denniss, as he made a lot of changes, but how many more are required to finish his work, I'm not sure. At this point I would say the patch is 85% ready, with all coding done (unless a bug will be found).

Denniss -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/4/2014 4:38:41 PM)

Currently investigating quirks in aircraft guns, should be finished next week.

A game -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/10/2014 1:28:55 AM)

Been awhile since I have been playing WitE, I know there has been alot of discussion about the 1:1 = 2:1 rule, is this something this patch will address? eg. make it an optional rule?

Morvael said it was going to be an optional setting, similar to the severe or mild blizzard that can be set by mutual agreement of the players. But I don't remember in what thread he said that.

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/10/2014 4:14:05 AM)

I have good news and bad news. It's in but it will be a scenario parameter (accessible via editor), not a game option, so unfortunately you will have to play a custom scenario to reverse or turn off the rule. The same applies to national morale modifiers and alternate CV setting. No space on the normal option screen to fit these.

jwolf -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/10/2014 1:54:33 PM)

Morvael, could you give a bit more detail?  Let's say you want to start a 1941 campaign game without the 2:1 rule.  So you go to the editor with a copy of the standard campaign, edit this setting, call it something new, and everything else stays as it should?  And how would this work in MP?

Maybe this topic would be better in a separate thread after 1.08 comes out, where you can give comprehensive instructions.  But all guidance, especially for the technologically impaired, would be much appreciated.

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/10/2014 3:57:23 PM)

jwolf, that's how it would work. Open classic scenario, modify one parameter, save under new name, select that scenario to play.

Anyway, I see it's so important for the players that I have moved this from scenario parameter to game option. The game option screen might be a bit clunky now, but it's a good trade off I think.

Obviously morale modifiers or the even more esoteric CV variants will stay as scenario parameters.

FYI, it will be also possible to reduce the impact of forts on defensive CV using the fort modifier game option when set to values between 1 and 99. Instead of slowing fort building it will reduce their bonus to CV. Maybe it will be possible to avert WW1 trench stalemates with lower settings.

Commanderski -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/10/2014 4:24:11 PM)

Ok, sounds like we can work with it. Is there a link to it somewhere?

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/10/2014 4:54:21 PM)

Still in beta tests.

This might even be more important then eliminating the 1=2 rule. What do you think would be a good setting for the fort modifier?

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/11/2014 5:57:08 AM)

One tester recommends values between 50 and 75. All depends on your taste for dynamic war. First two years this benefit Axis, then Soviets.

gradenko2k -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/11/2014 2:00:33 PM)

What are those alternate cv settings referring to exactly?

Looking forward to the patch

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/11/2014 2:32:51 PM)

It's possible to set base CV of all artillery elements to 1 and/or to set base CV of labor and support elements to 0. This is more realistic (Why 20 men with no rifles have CV of 1, while 10 men armed with rifles and crewing a gun have CV of 0? Why penalize units with smaller logistical component and higher proportion of fighting troops (they already suffer higher wear & tear)?), and allows to better approximate unit fighting power. Unfortunately all those changes work in favour of the Soviets (they have more artillery and less support), so I suggest using them with serious negative morale modifier (also possible to be specified in scenario parameters).

Besides changing base CVs, the CV parameter allows to use different math for on-counter values, one which offers much better approximation of the values rolled in actual combat. This results in higher CVs on the counters, and no longer do the Soviets win easily when the counters show 1:1 ratio. They have to use 1.5:1-2:1 like the Germans. This plays badly with all the experience players have accumulated, thus it's an optional setting for those who are brave enough to learn something new :)

In total there are 6 possible configurations of the CV parameter.

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/11/2014 2:46:40 PM)

See... the values can differ a lot from what you know :)

Fonts look a bit strange as the screenshot was taken on Linux.

In this example:
- I used alternate CV mode (artillery+, support-) and alternate calculations
- fort power was halved
- Luftflotte 2 has custom color :)

Just a coincidence, I'm sure, that POLAND is featured so prominently in Morvael's screenshot.  [;)]

Seriously, Morvael, many thanks for your hard work on this great game.

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/11/2014 3:35:01 PM)

Place where I live is just next to the selected hex :)

GamesaurusRex -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/11/2014 3:52:53 PM)

Yes ! More applause for Morvael and his associates ! Great work !

Schmart -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/11/2014 4:03:11 PM)

It's great to hear that some of these changes will be made available for tinkering in the editor. I think it could help drive development and playability of the game to allow more elements to be editor adjusted. I'm sure it's not easy (if not impossible, if items are strictly hard coded) to add stuff like this in the editor, but I think having more items in the editor will encourage more minds to go in there and create/edit scenarios, getting a larger pool of information and editing/testing for future development of the game, particularly 2.0. Some other core elements that would be nice to see in the editor would be more options to Admin Pt distribution, unit restriction or availability for creation/rebuild, and Axis Army HQ/Russian Front HQ arrival/withdraw paths, and maybe event triggering for unit arrival/withdrawal (if hex X,Y is occupied, unit 123 arrives/withdraws).

Then again, maybe the developers would prefer to keep a lid on too many users tinkering in the editor...

KWG -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/15/2014 3:32:56 PM)

Just had to do a fresh install on the computer i run wite on.  So i have a install of wite , never even started once, ready and waiting for the patch.

Just to be sure.... the patch will be comprehensive... no other patches needed?...

Richrd -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/16/2014 3:36:53 AM)

morvael I for one can't thank you enough for the hard work you've put into what is often a thankless task. I have read and reread your new features and I can't find fault with anything you've done. I'm not going to start a new game until you release the patch. Will any of these new features be in WITW?

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/16/2014 6:27:46 AM)

I think the patch is mostly ready now, bar some generic data updates and scenario refresh.

My guest bess is that the patch will be made available as a comprehensive one, first as a beta and after an unknown period of time (and hotfixes) made public. That how it was with the previous patches.

I don't know if any of the features will get into WitW, maybe not, but maybe they will affect the designers when they start WitE 2.0 and see that some of the changes made in 1.7.11 to 1.8.0 were good for the health of the game (and liked by the gamers).

Commanderski -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/16/2014 12:53:15 PM)

Any idea on a possible release date?

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/16/2014 1:31:36 PM)

I would like to wrap up the package in 10 days, and deliver it to 2by3 before my holiday (I'm leaving on 27th). But it depends on external factors, that I have no control of. Plus, it will take some time to turn the files I will submit into a beta patch installer and to publish it.

morvael -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/25/2014 9:13:31 AM)

The patch is 99% ready, but we need to assemble scenario and generic data change log, and prepare an updated manual. This needs to be packaged and shipped to 2by3, and later to Matrix Games. Since Joel is on holiday, it will be impossible to deliver this to Matrix Games for publication. I start my own holiday on Sunday as well, and will be absent for 10 days (I will monitor the forum, though). As a result it will be the best solution to spend the next two weeks testing the patch and preparing the manual. If all will be well, I will submit the whole package to 2by3 around 10th of August for publication.

jwolf -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/25/2014 12:37:00 PM)

Great news, Morvael, thanks for all your work on this.

Champagne -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/25/2014 2:25:24 PM)

Thanks, morvael.

I noticed that you live in Poland.

I visited Poland on a brief vacation some years ago during my Army tour of duty in Germany.

I visited the Masurian Lake District. Back in the 1993 when I visited, the young tour guide from Poland befriended me and revealed that unemployment at that time was 30 percent. I hope that this situation is much improved today.

Commanderski -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/25/2014 4:47:09 PM)

Thanks for the update and have a great holiday!

Oh yeah, we made good progress since them. In 1993 we were barely freed from the iron grasp of the USSR and communism. The gap in GDP per capite is still large, but it gets smaller with every year. Of course there was price to pay for being underdeveloped and lacking capital. Those without patience emigrate to the West to improve their situation on the spot. Can't blame them, but I'm happy I don't have to.

I guess you wouldn't recognize the Masurian Lake District now, at that time there was probably 10% of the current number of tourists there.

Champagne -> RE: Any news on the 1.08 patch? (7/26/2014 2:36:07 AM)

The Lake District back then was just barely recognizable as a tourist attraction. There were visitors, and, everyone had a great time, but, it was not crowded. The boat tours were very modest affairs.

I was glad to go to Poland and tell the Polish people myself that, as an American and a US military officer, I admired their courage and determination. I was able to express my heartfelt hope that Poland and the USA would be very good friends in the future.

One of the lads in the group wanted to fight me, but, the others in the group chastised him in Polish, as though my message was heard and appreciated. This happened during the evening after the days tours, when the tour guide and I went into town to look around and buy a bottle of beer. He was a very good interpreter. He spoke English as well as anyone I know. I think that we were in his home town and the lads were a group of his friends from the neighborhood. We hung out in a park or town square. To be fair, I should say that the combative lad was very drunk, so, I didn't take anything personally.

It was a great moment for me.

On a side visit, I visited the ruins of the 19th century fortress at Lotzen and also visited the ruins of Hitler's HQ near Rastenburg.
