Thanks Toby, see you there.

Uploaded part 3 which was the last part that day, more coming tomorrow.

Part 3 - Haha stepped on a bug!

Keston -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/8/2014 1:33:35 PM)

I am curious whether trade sanctions followed by a (legal) blockade was an available option to force the bugs to war. Hiring pirates and spying missions tend to anger the AI as well. However, they might have just looked at the defense pacts and refused to declare no matter what.

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/8/2014 1:50:02 PM)

That's a good idea, I could have gone that route. In the end I just decided to declare war myself because I thought I was ready, turns out I was but they bit back a little bit at the end there so we shall see!

I'm about to kick off my stream in about 15 minutes by the way. Looking forward to see what happens next.

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/8/2014 6:34:58 PM)

Part 5 - Prelude to War

I think my next stream will get very interesting...

Keston -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/10/2014 2:50:17 AM)

Despite the nominal odds that discount the value of your decisive weapon, surely the extreme recklessness of the Yor is bound to be their downfall as they rush into vast swarms of deathly Caleph fighters. (The Gizzies are not to be trusted - if they nag you about independence, it's probably a savings in force commitment and resources in the long run to just crush them, or at least take all their resource stations.

Will next time be Sunday as before?

EDIT: One can't help but be impressed by massed fleet fighters.

What is the defense ? Putting a few PD on most ships is useful, but what about purpose-built size 300 or so "PD-Boats" loaded with PD to attach as needed when facing fighter-oriented opponents? Would those work? Designated as what role, if we want them to defend against fighters and not use its weapons against ships in a battle. One notion: have it not part of a fleet but assigned to escort a large ship likely to be heavily in the fight.

P.S. Can PD engage missiles at all or just "ships" including fighters?

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/10/2014 9:11:22 AM)

Yep, le't say Sunday at mid day as that is my next day off.

I guess the best defence is point defence everywhere and fast ships to catch the carriers. A comparable fleet in range of their carriers is going to burn them down at similar speed. Despite everyone else having better torpedoes and blasters having them fighters actually puts me on a par or a step ahead in some cases which will even out later game as the fighter advantage will slowly be lost. I will always have the best fighters but when they catch up with better point defence and fighters themselves I wont feel so strong.

Tcby -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/13/2014 8:48:01 AM)

Looking forward to kicking off this war [:)]

Blackstork -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/13/2014 4:58:20 PM)

Nice series! I was on job so could not watch it in time, but thats some well-planned nice action vs out-teched, overpowering empire.

Also nice to see Caleph mod in action! Glad you all like it.

Part 7 uploaded
Part 7 - Yor bite off more than they can chew, do these things chew? oh who knows

Sirian -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/15/2014 7:07:55 AM)

I follow your series on YouTube and am enjoying it very much, although I am currently still at Part 2 (I do not have much free time available)

I noticed you have my EVE components mod installed, which fills my with great joy. But I had to discover that there seem to be some icons missing. So I downloaded your mod will do some race-specific icons today to make the component mod extended-compatible.

Here it is: DWE compatible components mod
Sorry for invading the thread.

Keston -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/15/2014 1:06:26 PM)

Congratulations on achieving some territorial war goals. I like how the various other powers fighting the Yor took the opportunity of Caleph entry into the war to bow out themselves. The Yor didn't seem to hit back as hard as I would have thought they would - were their funds depleted by the multi-front war they had been fighting?

The Yor have powerful firepower ratings - do they get that by using heavy short range weapons? You mentioned that the advantages of carriers are eroded over time by counters. What is the trend in armament for the wiser AI after a few decades of play?

Two visual details - I don't know if anything can be done about it, but I notice the Youtube is 720 rather than 1080 resolution, meaning the text and details are much less clear even on the 1080 screen. Also, I think it is fair play to change opponent colors when they become confusingly similar - such as the adjoining greens.

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/15/2014 9:06:47 PM)

Thanks Sirian! I shall pick that up :)

@Keston
My intelligence agents grabbed an operations map every so often and the Yor didn't have huge amounts of ships, they were just each extremely powerful!
Several of their fleets were busy dealing with Lemeresh defence and attack duties from what I could tell, so they were stretched thin, which showed it ended up being the perfect time to strike.

The AI will have their own flavour of ships and some will be suited to fight me, other not so. If they stay ahead of me in to late research levels then who knows who will put up a nice fight against me, we shall see if anyone makes me rethink my strategy. Currently I was influencing strategy in my research, so I knew investing in armour wasn't the greatest idea for the Yor because it will do little against their phasers. The XHumans however....if I have to fight them I will need to get that armour maxed out!

About the 720p hmmm I'm not sure. I could try changing my desktop resolution to 720p I guess to stop the compression factors hurting the fonts less. I'm not sure I have the connection to stream at 1080p so I would need to record locally and upload gigantic files that would just be too much down time for my PC and connection I think. I will try changing resolution next time to hope it solves it a little.

Tcby -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/15/2014 9:10:51 PM)

I'm looking forward to catching up on the episode I missed yesterday. I would have watched, had I not forgotten it was a Tuesday[8|]

Keston -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/15/2014 11:09:10 PM)

Thanks. I have little understanding of the wizardry of video production and streaming.

I gather the Xhumans like shield bypassing weapons systems. Optimizing fleets against particular opponents sounds like prudent strategy, particularly if their ships are formidable.

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/18/2014 10:52:29 PM)

Going to do a stream Sunday mid day again, and will try to reschedule one soon, been working a lot lately so not played anywhere near enough, looking forward to get back in to this!

@Keston yeah the XHumans use rail guns so I need some armour for my ships to survive.

Tcby -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/20/2014 11:23:24 AM)

Looking forward to this :)

Keston -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/20/2014 2:27:06 PM)

Now live, a galactic conflagration!

Blackstork -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/20/2014 9:00:26 PM)

Nice development, recovery of Yor and retaliation, help of Tairoshan for which they payed later, bribing that swarm fleet of Gizzies to join glorious Calephs after very polite taking of their homeworld planet. Alot of action, was quite intense :)

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds live series coming soon. (7/21/2014 2:45:51 AM)
