I' m in the middle of a campaign right now. What will happen to it if/when I upgrade to 5.0. Will I be able to continue my campaign or will I have to start over.

Well, to cover our ***, we say that it will not work. I have successfully continued saves betwwen versions, but depends on whether you want to take a chance or not?! ;) I had one instance where the save WAS corrupt after a version, but all the rest,none. I'm going to chance it :D
