I've been playing the game, and damn me if it isn't addictive.

I was wondering about the ports- the small harbors in the islands and atolls that once occasionally saw a small tramp steamer or a passenger liner. Taking on huge numbers of transports and war vessels.

Not an easy thing to upgrade....

Is that why in certain ports, while I have upgraded the capacity - that loading/unloading is painfully slow?

Obviously, in Pearl Harbor and San Francisco it's lightning quick- all those cranes, forklifts and such.

I have found that Naval Support squads will speed it up a bit. Also if you don't overload the docking cap of the port and thus DOCK your ships, it will load/unload quicker. GP

Naval support (eng or base units have these) helps also.
Also docked ship unload faster than docked ship.

Edit Sorry I misunderstood the question, yeah, it could be due to TF/ship size (docking), lack of naval support (Pearl and San Francisco usually have a lot of naval support), read section 6.3 of the manual to see all the factors

There was a story about Admiral Halsey. COMINCH was complaining that it was taking several weeks to unload cargo from ships at Noumea, while it only took three days to unload at San Francisco. Halsey replied, "Give me the port facilities of San Francisco, and we'll unload in two days!"

OHHHHHH...... Beautiful answers. You guys rock.

EDIT: After viewing this message and going back to my current campaign, I had a bit of a hissy fit when I saw how much naval support there is in Alaska....
