For severely damaged ships, its rather annoying that they have to make it back to base on their own power. In Real Life, damaged carriers and the like would be given a tow, which of course, they might sink under. Its silly though, to expect a carrier to sail at 2 knots back home. For that matter, 2 knots? Seems to me that speed always linearly decreasing with damage leads to this silly situation in the first place. I suppose a better damage model would fix this...
