imperialman -> SPEAR Capability 3 - A British AShM for the F-35B. (7/21/2014 8:19:01 AM)

Hi folks, just purchased the game and have dived right in, building a scenario involving a Queen Elizabeth carrier group in the mid 20's.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask but I was wondering if there are any plans to implement 'SPEAR Capability 3' it's an under development 100 km range anti-surface missile for the F-35 Lightning II in UK Service.

Related info: "The original intention was for a 100 kilograms (220 lb) warhead[15] on a 75 mi (121 km)-range weapon with substantial reuse of Brimstone modules. The 2 m (6.6 ft) weapon will fly at high-subsonic speed using a turbojet and wing kit, and will feature a multimode seeker with INS/GPS guidance and datalink. The assessment phase will conclude with flight trials in 2014 on Typhoon. MBDA have shown artwork of a four-missile launcher on a single Typhoon weapon station, and four will fit with a Meteor air-to-air missile in each internal weapons bay of the F-35B."

If not, is it in any way possible to add this myself?

Thanks for any help folks.

Do you have any links for this project?

Right now you cannot add weapons. Sorry.

Fair point, despite the information on it available from MBDA, the weapon has only just started testing from the Tornado GR4 and Typhoon. It's not expected to enter service before 2018 so many specifics are likely to change.

It does look promising to fill the air launched anti-ship missile role for the Queen Elizabeth carrier air group.

By the time the missile gets to IOC, the F-35 program will be cancelled!

HA!

Feltan

By the time the F-35 is cancelled, the Queen Elizabeth will be mothballed. [:D] Don't hold your breath. Sometimes a program IS too big to die.

It's still vaporware, though. Take it from someone who was sure the ANS supersonic ASCM was going to be fielded... [:D]

Seems to me that incremental upgrades to the Brimstone, in addition to purchasing ASM Tomahawks, and/or NSM, and LRASSM could achieve most if not all the same results, with much less "vapour".

Very informative, trials have begun from RAF aircraft haven't they?

If I read it correctly it is not a done deal yet but a competition for which the GBU-53/B SDB II has also been entered.

And the program is also for Typhoon, not just the 35s.

slicendice -> RE: SPEAR Capability 3 - A British AShM for the F-35B. (8/7/2014 3:43:02 AM)

So does anybody have a more reliable warhead weight for the SPEAR III? I don't believe it is possible to actually squeeze a 100kg warhead into a SDB II sized weapon WITH extra propulsion and fuel. It should be somewhere between Hellfire class ATGM and SDB II, if I were to make a guess, the overall weight will likely be in 100kg class.
