Chris21wen -> I've tried again (7/23/2014 7:39:21 PM)

After an email from Matrix informing me of a new patch I downloaded, installed and ran the game. Having opened the first tutorial it suddenly dawned on me why I never played the game when it originally came out. Lack of info.

Following the instructions to look at the load out of the aircraft I realised most of what was displayed meant squat. What is a LDGP? I could look it up in Wiki (if wiki is correct that is) but I shouldn't have too, you have produced the game, supply the info.

Not being a compete numpty I'm familiar with 60-70% of what is shown below but not profile or how in affects things. Nor am I familiar with all the stuff after cruise at...

Also in the loadouts available what does 'excl. optional weapons' mean?

If all this is already available, please point me in the right direction and I apologise beforehand.

Coiler12 -> RE: I've tried again (7/23/2014 7:56:54 PM)

-LDGP means "low-drag general purpose"-normal unguided bombs.
-Profile means attack profile. A Hi-lo-high profile means the plane flies most of way high for fuel efficiency, attacks at a low altitude, then returns to the fuel-efficient high flight. Similarly, a hi-hi-hi means it's high altitude the whole time.
-Optional weapons means just that. They can be excluded for reasons like there not being enough in the base.

MirabelleBenou -> RE: I've tried again (7/23/2014 8:37:25 PM)

You have a lot of usefull info about weapons in the DB Viewer scrren (juste click on the weapon name).

It show you :
- The type of weapon (bomb in our case)
- The launch altitude (min & max)
- The range
- The valid targets

It should be enought for you to understand the use of this weapon in case the name is not known for you.

For every weapon available, you should look at these information before using it. As for the various planes or ships.

mikkey -> RE: I've tried again (7/23/2014 9:35:45 PM)

Chris, you will find many appropriate information in the Command Manual Addendum and especially in Mega-FAQ.

Thanks

What about 'Cruise at 36K ft 50nm (25nm+25nm) dash on target at SL and Mil. Weapon release at Max range.'

I think. Cruise at 36K until 50nm then drop low go to full speed and release the weapon at max range, in this case 1nm. No idea what (25nm+25nm), SL or Mil mean.

I don't see the point about optional weapons?

snowburn -> RE: I've tried again (7/23/2014 9:51:47 PM)

Optional weapons can be: Short Range Air to Air missiles.

for example:

Strike Loadout
-4xMX82
-2Extra Fuel Tanks
-2xAim 9M (optional)

you can use this loadout even if you don't have AIM-9M missiles on storage.

The "Cruise at 36K ft...." refers to the standard mission parameters that the aircraft should follow, for that particular weapon/loadout. At this time, I don't believe those mission profiles are fully implemented in CMANO. I think that will be activated with the TOT Planner. "SL" is Sea Level. "Mil" in this context is an abbreviation of Military Power, which is the highest throttle setting a military aircraft can utilize, without lighting off the afterburners. (If they have them.)

Casinn -> RE: I've tried again (7/24/2014 2:52:26 AM)

The optional weapons thing is new-ish. Originally you couldn't load planes at all if you'd used up all of a single type of ammo available at base/ship. This is a solution for that, now you can still use that loadout type even if something is missing that has been ruled "optional".

What (25+25)is saying is that it will fly a 25nm attack run at low level, then fly a 25nm egress, also at low level. (25+25) is simply indicating that the low altitude portion of the flight is both before and after weapons release. Some loadouts/aircraft may climb back to altitude immediately after weapons release.

The point of optional weapons would be if say, you are trying to conserve AMRAAMS for fighters. Most F/A-18 strike loadouts will include AMRAAMs as well, but if you chose not to load the optional weapons (Usually the extra AAMs) those AMRAAMS would be available to the escorts instead.

That is what I'm looking for, but I'm now in info overload[8D] Thanks

I tend to agree with you, this is one of the "drawbacks" many of my friends point out about CMANO: that it is very difficult to know what each weapon (or aircraft, or sensor) does at a simple glance. I do miss the short descriptions of each unit the original Harpoon had, I learnt a lot that way [:D]

However, I'm finding, with CMANO, that one of the parts I enjoy most is doing a little research about a given scenario's units before playing it. You see, I can find my way with Cold War era stuff, but I'm quite lost with current Russian and Chinese hardware [:D][:D]

Could it be possible to add a little "Description" field to the databases? So a newbie can say, with a quick glance, "Ok, so these Eurofighter Typhoons are basically air-to-air jets with a secondary strike capability, I can use them as backup or reinforcements for these Tornado GR.4". Perhaps it is not worth the effort having Wikipedia a few clicks away, but well...How many database entrances are there? [:D][:D]

http://www.warfaresims.com/?page_id=1876 has the "Database Images & Descriptions Add-ons" which is a community effort that includes writing such a descriptions. I don't know what the coverage is though, the database is huge :)

I was aware of the Images part but never came across a description, thanks!!

erichswafford -> RE: I've tried again (7/24/2014 1:21:01 PM)

This is what I use: http://www.harpoondatabases.com/encyclopedia/List_bycountry.aspx

This was an effort by the devs themselves to flesh out the info available in Harpoon, and it is still, for me, the best source of concise info out there, even if the very newest systems aren't in there.

And I think you can see what a helpful bunch of folks enjoy this game. Stick with it! It takes a little investment in terms of time and a willingness to experiment, but that's part of the fun. And I guarantee that the lessons learned will actually be remembered - unlike something you just read somewhere.

Quick plug: If anyone is interested in providing images and descriptions (non-copyrighted) of the various database entries, let me know. I'm planning on getting back to providing more, once I'm finished with another project I'm working on. With that said, I can always use the help, as the database is huge. PM me if you are interested.

Baloogan has created an online db viewer on his site with some nice features here.

Very smart guy.

The equivalent to that display on my site would be the nation index: http://wiki.baloogancampaign.com/index.php/NationIndex which can also narrow your search by year.
