Keston -> Warships, Resupply all head home if damaged (7/25/2014 9:17:38 AM)

Can't refuel the fleet since the resupply ship took some damage and when I order it to deploy it undeploys and heads home. This temporarily stopped when I put it on "If attacked" stance, but that seemed to revert(due to defaults?) so the fleet on empty has to slog back home to refuel since the resupply won't cooperate. to
put the empire settings to no default stance on other

The end of Haree78's AAR video shows mobs of ships meandering around at some kind of refueling point.

One of the huge problems with ship AI is that, at the moment, as soon as it takes any kind of component damage it will immediately flee and return to the nearest repair point. This makes gravitic weapons extremely OP.

Yes, the shields were penetrated at least once but not knocked down. The ship turned back each time I ordered the ship back to the planet to deploy. It looks like everything to do with ships is manual and I set stance to When Attacked - for the empire setting I also tried changing the default stance around.

Is this a beta patch issue?

Any workaround?

Keston,

Look at the Resupply design. Perhaps he is set to flee if attacked? is so then change to 'never' - might help?

Nanaki -> RE: Warships, Resupply all head home if damaged (7/25/2014 4:18:20 PM)

Unfortunatley it does not help.

Keston -> RE: Warships, Resupply all head home if damaged (7/25/2014 5:13:56 PM)

Resupply Was set as Evade Stronger, All Weapons weaker, Do Not Invade and Flee when Shields 50%. Tried Never flee but it still sets to repair when damage is taken. "Stop" works for only an instant. It can be ordered to redeploy but as soon as it actually starts to deploy it undeploys and switch back to repair.

With one armor damaged, the heavy cruiser heads home with Standoff/All Weapons/Invade When Clear and Shields 50%. Ordered to raid, it drops raiders and turns home. I can get it back to fight, but then after destroying a frigate and taking a second armor hit from another light frigate it seeks to escape from that frigate.

-Never flee doesn't make a difference

The beta patch looked good in terms of not having crashes, but I'm wishing I kept the pre-patch copy a little longer.

Have you tried having a constructor on hand that could repair your supply ship in place? You could assign a taskforce to "escort" the constructor.

What I've done in the past, is boost weapons, shields and armor on my supply ships and then include them in my attack fleets. That way they are always together.

Keston -> RE: Warships, Resupply all head home if damaged (7/26/2014 7:04:58 AM)

The real problem isn't the skittish supply ship but warships acting the same way.

I thought the issue might be that a Flee setting tied to Shield damage might be triggered by any internal damage (worse than a lowered shield, right?) but since Never Flee does not change behavior, that must not be it.

I uninstalled and reinstalled without the beta patch and in the same game it gives the same result so, unless it is a save game artifact or my ship management settings, it would appear to be in the pre-beta version.

Nanaki, is that what you meant? I assumed that above you were talking about the AI in the beta, not the game pre-beta.

In which case I just haven't noticed it before - probably because in multi-ship battles ships torn up by grav weapons tend to get destroyed or disabled.

Is anyone not experiencing this problem? (Using particular settings, for example)

johanwanderer -> RE: Warships, Resupply all head home if damaged (7/27/2014 4:47:02 AM)

I think the difference is whether the ship is in a fleet. I believe ships in a fleet don't break off and go repair on their own.

Keston -> RE: Warships, Resupply all head home if damaged (7/27/2014 9:58:43 AM)

Thanks. The Resupply was in a fleet until I separate it out to avoid it being caught in a fleet order. Put it in its own fleet and the behavior is better! Though I fear I may speak too soon....
