madflava13 -> Falcon 4.0 (7/28/2014 2:47:13 PM)

Anyone out there playing this? I never got into the Falcon series, but I saw some youtube videos that looked really nice. They sparked a renewed interest in flight sims. I'm curious about anyone's experiences - I know, for example, that the game needs to be modded, and that there are several good ones out there. Thoughts on those? Also, what kind of rig is needed to run it at its best? Any other thoughts or directions to good AARs, etc. would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Here is the web page of Lead Pursuit who published/developed the new (2005) Falcon 4.0: Allied Force!

I own it. I'm not big fan of BVR combat(Beyond Visual Range)so I don't play it much.

If you go to Amazon and look up Falcon 4:Allied Force you can see some customer reviews.
You can buy Falcon 4: Allied Force on Amazon for about $17.00.

Then, also on Amazon, look up the Mad Catz Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S.
You can get that for about $250.00.

Then go to the web and look up Falcon Northwest Computer. They custom make high end computer systems.
I bought a MACH V in 2008 and it still runs everything I want with all the graphics turned up to max.
Their customer service is great.
Call them up and tell them what you want to run and they will
configure a system for you. You can get a MACH V running
the new Devil's Canyon Intel chip set with a wide screen monitor for around $4,500.00.

Then you will be all set to run Falcon 4.

Have fun

I run F4 at max settings and my system is no where near as powerful as Trugrit's. i7 at 3.2Ghz on a win7 laptop (8Gb Ram) with an nVidia 560m GPU w/2GB Ram.

Then again I don't have that fancy joystick but a $60 Thrustmaster T.Flight.Hotas will do the trick almost as well (and truth be told any joystic with throttle will work fine too).

The F4 campaigns are truly dynamic and make the player feel (as much as can be felt in a game) as if he's part of a force and making a difference. Add in the great, easy to use editor and you've got a package that IMO still can't be beat. The DCS products may have super accurate flight models and the graphics be excellent but honestly - they got no soul! None. Nada. Most contemporary flight sims are cold, dead fish in comparison.

If you can pick up F4 for $17 then do it. Highly recommended.

NOTE: if you're looking to fly in the online community be advised it is getting smaller all the time. And it was pretty small the last time I checked which was about a year ago.

Falcon 4 is an excellent simulator. I play it for many years (Falcon 4, Allied Force, SuperPak, FreeFalcon, BMS... mods). You can find some interesting videos also at Baloogan's page

Rising-Sun -> RE: Falcon 4.0 (7/29/2014 8:27:17 AM)

Been awhile since i played the Falcon Series, 3.0, 4.0, etcs. Pretty good F-16 simualtion. Now it not very many good sims out there, most are becoming like arcade flying craps, like video games.

Mundy -> RE: Falcon 4.0 (7/29/2014 11:46:19 AM)

These days, the DCS series is quite good.

Digital Combat Simulator

You can download the general environment for free, and it includes the SU-25T, which is a teched-up Frogfoot. It handles like a cement truck, though.

The rest of the stuff you can buy as a module a piece at a time. The Flaming Cliffs module adds a bunch of planes.

The Frogfoot and the rest of the Flaming Cliffs stuff, I would rate as a bit deeper than Falcon 3 stuff was. The also have the A-10C, Ka-50 Black Shark (Hokum), Mi-8 Hip, UH-1, and a recently added F-86. This bunch is on a complexity level equal to Falcon 4, so you have to really immerse yourself into those.

Overall I love this sim. I think it portrays a better sensation of flight than any other sim in my experience. I've pretty much played them all since 1990, which says a lot.

A group is close to releasing a MiG-21 for this, which I am seriously looking forward to.

Falcon 11, Buddy Spike!

madflava13 -> RE: Falcon 4.0 (7/29/2014 1:20:33 PM)

Good stuff guys, thanks. If I get Allied Force, are there necessary mods to make it "the best it can be?"

Trugrit -> RE: Falcon 4.0 (7/29/2014 5:46:23 PM)

Yes,

You want to go to Lead Pursuit downloads page.

http://www.lead-pursuit.com/downloads.htm

Also, Lead pursuit has a link page to mods

I still have it. Played the game only for an hour, though.

Some serious simulators still have an option to buy monstrous manuals.

You could always get a manual printed in color at a printing shop?

Aurelian -> RE: Falcon 4.0 (8/2/2014 3:16:34 AM)

I still have mine :)

For the cost of getting the F4 manual printed in full color and bound one could probably purchase a couple of brand new games.
