Came to America when I was 5. Lived in DC and went to a preschool run by a Belgian, Ms Vera (ok, that’s all I remember). One day, I was playing in the yard and fell and fractured my wrist on the edge of the concrete slab. I remember going to Ms Vera, holding my wrist, and saying “Ms Vera, I sprained my ankle”. I said that because I watched TV and all the heros didn’t get shot or anything bad; they just sprained their ankle. So that was my first English Language vector: when one is hurt, one “sprain’s ones ankle”. The old cowboy films are righteous. The old cowboy films remind us of who we really are. The old cowboy films recall our roots.
