trebcourie -> PBEM -- Error Reading Units fom object save file (8/3/2014 2:53:25 PM)

I have three ongoing PBEM++ games. Last nigh I played turns in all three with no problem. This morning, the two that I had turns awaiting for me wouldn't load. I got an "Error reading Units object from save file" for both games. The error is unrecoverable and I have to go into Task Managers to close out FPCRS.

I'm running 2.03a and these PBEMs have been going on for quite a few turns. Not sure if my opponents updated to 2.04 but I emailed one and asked.

Sorry for the issue. Let us know if your opponent is on 2.04.

I haven't heard back from him.

I am now 0 for 3 on PBEMs I can play, and I have no way to contact the other two through the PBEM++ system.

The battles are against:
Hollander
Ringking

We will talk about this in our dev call Monday night

FWIW -- The first error I get is "Soft error loading Unit object from save file"

If I click OK, I get repeated errors of the above.

Have you tried updating to 2.04 and running the file?

Not yet. I don't want to have to try to roll it back. But I'll give it a shot.

Success for one at least. I guess all three opponents upgraded the same evening!

The good news is that two of them worked.

The bad news is that it seems I've "lost" one of the PBEMs. When I selected it, I got a duplicate turn for one of my other PBEMs. Now it shows that one as "Waiting" for me even though I never played it.

So 2 for 3, but the problem with #3 is on the server.

Sounds like some adjustments need to be made to the PBEM system Matrix is using. You need to be able to contact each other if something goes wrong in the game.

Good Hunting.

I agree completely. That's a huge downside of Slitherine's PBEM++ system.

For example, I started a game with a guy back in April over PBEM++. After setup, I never got another turn. Then a couple weeks ago I finally got a turn with him. He said (through in-game messaging, available only if you successfully send a new turn) that his system had crashed and that he'd just gotten FPCRS up and running again. But through PBEM++ he had no way at all to contact me.

And now? That's the 1 game of 3 that just got "lost" somehow.

As an option, you can still do standard PBEM over email. At least that way you can have a contact channel with the other party.
