Dannyp19 -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/14/2014 3:55:24 PM)

My 1st nomination for "Best Scenario" is "Goodnight Irene" by Feltan!

Coiler12 -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/14/2014 4:55:59 PM)

The scenario I've enjoyed the most has been Deter, Detect, Defend by Randomizer.

Maromak -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/14/2014 8:45:34 PM)

Red Flag and/or Fresian Flag. Brass Drum would also be a contender.

what he said of course [;)] Thanks for the compliments! [8D]

p.s. one note it's Frisian [:'(]

GBOATZ -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/14/2014 10:10:49 PM)

I found POAW's "Changjiang Challenge" the most intriguing scenario I've played so far as it involved a far different strategy for me than just fighting ships and planes (with a tip of the cap to Gunner98 and Primarchx for my specific strategy that I had not considered on my own).

And the excellent work done by djoos5 on his hypothetical "Last Countdown" scenario in the "What if.." category

djoos5 -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/15/2014 1:54:55 AM)

Although I always love to see my name on a list like this, I am not sure that credit is given in the right place - I do not know, nor did I have any part in a 'Last Countdown' scenario. My contributions thus far have been my Red Storm: Fill the Gap and Med Conflict scenarios.

I can say I have one in the works, although time always seems to be in short supply to get it done. It is based on Larry Bond's novel, Cauldron. I am working out the missions and events right now and should have it up for testing in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the accolades, though, GBOATZ! I wish I could accept! [:D][;)]

NumberOneBSUFan -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/15/2014 2:52:45 AM)

I have read Cauldron myself. Quite a good book although I prefer Red Phoniex. Anyways, good luck on that scenario mate.

SSN754planker -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/15/2014 3:20:46 AM)

red phoenix is an excellent read-minus the love story.

I really like this idea. Here are my suggestions for categories...

* Best small scenario <-- up to 50 total units (all sides)
* Best medium-sized scenario <-- 50 to 499 units (all sides)
* Best large scenario <-- 500+ units (all sides)
* Best Cold War scenario
* Best DB3000 scenario
* Best future (2015+) scenario <-- we can change the date each year
* Best scenario of the year
* Best author of the year <-- not automatically the person who wrote the best scenario of the year; this could be a way to give credit to someone whose overall efforts were impressive in some way even if none of their scenarios was the best in any specific category
* Best new author of the year <-- reserved for someone whose first scenario is released in the year that they get the award; it is a nice way to encourage new talent to join the pool of scenario writers

I left out the "what if" scenarios because, technically, so many scenarios are "what if this situation that did not turn into a war in history had turned into a war?" I left out the AU suggestions because I'm not sure what the term means. :) (Active units?)

Comments? Suggestions?

Meroka37 -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/15/2014 8:51:04 AM)

I like the idea, I agree with Mark's suggestions...

I agree.
As for the scenario of the year, I have to say Operation Brass Drum. Even though it shipped with the original sim, Prixmach did an awesome job on it.

GBOATZ -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/15/2014 2:01:10 PM)

A thousand pardons djoos5, for the inadvertent credit. Instead it was ACB3 [&o] (my apologies) who did such stellar work on the Last Countdown "What if..." scenarios.

Wish to give credit where it is due! [;)]

djoos5 -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/15/2014 3:13:32 PM)

No problem, GBOATZ! Maybe I can make this list in the near future. [:D]

As a matter of fact, I just got done re-reading Red Phoenix. I like it, but for me Vortex and Cauldron top my Larry Bond chart.

I started to read Vortex, but it just didn't grab me like Red Phoenix and Cauldron did.

hellfish6 -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/16/2014 3:05:54 AM)

Vortex and Red Phoenix were my favorite. I ended up going to South Africa and Namibia in no small part because I read Vortex when I was young.

Primarchx -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/16/2014 9:57:29 PM)

Thanks!

Casinn -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (8/17/2014 2:47:19 AM)

I have a new favorite almost every new scenario I play. hah
Haven't played enough to seriously rate a best of the year, but have to say thank you to all the designers this game has spawned. Given me many hours of enjoyment (and/or self-caused frustration)!

Mgellis -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (9/7/2014 5:05:54 AM)

May I suggest the following process (with suggestions for dates, deadlines, etc.)...

1. Developers/Matrix Games/? make a decision on the actual categories (best small scenario, best author, etc.) (by Sept. 20?)

2. Call for nominations (Sept. 21-Sept. 30)

3. Elimination (for this year) of any categories that receive no nominations (Sept. 30)

4. Create online polls so people can vote (Oct. 1-Oct. 14); this gives people a lot of time to play scenarios, see which ones they really like, etc.

5. Announce winner(s) (Oct. 15)

Anyway, it's just a thought. I hope this helps.

Lawdog1700 -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (9/11/2014 6:54:56 PM)

1. Wargasm 1962

Vulcan101 -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (12/15/2014 2:56:43 AM)

Havana Dreaming for me - another Feltan special. It gets real hectic, real quick.

SpacePope -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (12/15/2014 4:58:17 PM)

What is an AU? I'm willing to bet you don't mean Astronomical Unit.

mikmykWS -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (12/15/2014 7:03:21 PM)

Unit count[:)]

ClaudeJ -> RE: Scenario of the Year Award (12/16/2014 4:27:42 PM)

My Top 3:
- "Frisian Flag 2012", by Tomcat84. Great brief, lovely overlays, this scen actually got me into COMANO;
- "The Fighter-Bomber Aviation Regiment, 1987", by hellfish6. Great briefing, fascinating subject, immersive plot;
- "Red Flag 2017", by Tomcat84. Extremely challenging HD scen, I've yet to become efficient enough at micromanaging so many platforms.

However I must admit I haven't played yet several scens you guys mentioned like "Changjiang Challenge" and "Goodnight Irene".
