Bad news for the Russians and Allies alike: Berlin has been thouroughly reinforced with the Berlin militia and the SS engineer div. That will make the city harder than ever to conquer! To add insult to injury, the German have rolled old planes out of storage, 3 old Messerschmidt from the years 36... Rating 3, but one still has to account for them!

The Japanese have not been idle, using pilots to man 3 land based fighers, of poor rating (5); but thats still some defense. Worse, a territorial has apperaed in Madagascar, making all the ballet from 2 turns absolutely moot. Very likely, Diego Suarez won't be captured!

The allies have to reroll to grab the initiative.

Possibly, but unsure.
Anyway, this is not the right way to do things: the option should be available in the contextual menu.

Pss... [:-][:-][:-]

I'll have to redo the return to base whole phase.
The game is unable to detect that under the present conditions, the Netherland sub cannot make it back to port.
Of course, I cannot destroy it (unless there is a magic, unatural and undocumented way for doing so.)
That's one more bug that has not been corrected...

Have you tried hitting backspace with the unit selected? That is how one destroys a unit.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (8/31/2015 7:41:05 PM)

The Russians decide on changing their tactics.
They start with an air offensive: It is necessary to flip all units in Berlin, and prevent any possible reiforcements.
This will also let move some other planes.
In any case, the Russians abandon the idea that they can capture Helsinky this turn.

As usual, the Commonwealth and USA take supercombined.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/1/2015 6:39:20 AM)

The Russians begin by a carpet bombing attack to soften up the German defenses.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/1/2015 6:39:52 AM)

But the result is rather disappointing.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/1/2015 6:40:19 AM)

The allies do the same in Kiel.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/1/2015 6:41:49 AM)

With a result that the Russians watch with envy.
Removing an engineer division is certainly a good result. The plane, on the other hand...

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:12:28 AM)

The ground strike phase is extremely active.
But in Berlin, the Russian meet a quite strong air defense les by the most modern German fighters...

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:14:08 AM)

In Tokyo, the USA also face some air defense, but the planes are obviously of much lesser quality...

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:15:07 AM)

The flak is awsome and destroy a squadron.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:15:57 AM)

However, the remaining planes fully complete their mission.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:18:06 AM)

In Yokohama, the Japanese see a cloud of small pesky, inefficient british planes.
They still scramble to the defense, but don't succeed in achieving anything serious.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:19:43 AM)

Yokohama is not protected by flak, and the swarm manages to also fully meet it mission.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:21:16 AM)

NE of Kiel, the French send an old bomber, which fails.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:22:06 AM)

They have a much better result east of Kiel.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:22:44 AM)

And east of Hamburg.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:23:39 AM)

In Stettin, a Russian artillery does the minimal job.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:25:19 AM)

But west of Stettin, a Sturmkovitch does not even bother. He just flies over, says hello and goes back.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:26:19 AM)

Hopefully, a Tu2 does his job: at least Berlin won't be reinforced during the turn!

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:28:03 AM)

The Russian pilots are in a very good mood that week, and just refuse to seriously land any bomb.
Once more, they just do the minimal job not to be blamed.

However, some are efficient, but only where it actually serves little purpose!

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:31:30 AM)

In Nagoya, a US heavy bomber also fullfil the main part of its mission.
Now, most of central Japan is just stuck, armies unable to move around.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:32:32 AM)

Fukuoka also suffers, although this obviously is not going to be a major attack point.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 6:33:36 AM)

The Chinese also entered this ballet, with some success.
However, the screenshots were messed up.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 7:09:21 PM)

The allies attack in Kiel, where they fail miserably.
The Russians try not to show how hard they laugh...

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 7:11:02 PM)

They also make a pityful attack west of Berlin, to surround the city.
The Russians smile wildly. Yet, the result is not so bad, the hex is captured and both German units are destroyed: they now have no retreat path.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 7:21:31 PM)

South of Yokohama, the Japanese smile not at all.
The allied landing is perfect, and no unit is available for a counterattack: Yokohama is in serious danger with 4 marine units around, and more units to land in the next impulses.
If the allies wat to achieve some success, they have to capture Tokyo. The path seems clear: head east along the coast, or roll over Yokohama. Both strategies have their value, both will likely involve a fight before reaching Tokyo, and the Japanese army in not in position to counter any, nor to reinforne any city after the devastating swarm bombing raid that took off from the allied carriers.
The allies do have pending reinforcements, but the Japanese navy is in no position to destroy them: they are protected by hordes of battleships and cruisers; the remaining planes are in no position to reach them.
The allies supply line cannot be broken (it might under MWIF limited supply rules which doesn't let Korea be supplied from Paris, but I won't be using that): there are too many transports in the China Sea, and the allies will be able to land a HQ south of Yokohama.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 7:23:29 PM)

Two other combats: one in Wuhan, where the Chinese take the city but lose an anti-tank, one in the Reunion which the Commonwealth capture (of course, it should have reverted to France long ago, but so goes the game and its bugs...)

The US reorg many of their units, Russia does what it can for its planes.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 7:56:00 PM)

Post lost three time. Thanks Matrix. German Air. Japan Land. Period.

yvesp -> RE: Global War : a Japanese AAR (9/2/2015 8:02:39 PM)

I realize I forgot to show the fast moving situation in Japan.
