ryszardsh -> ID function or mission? (8/19/2014 11:45:38 PM)

Maybe I have missed it but a function or mission to "identify" would be useful I think. Was playing a scenario with lots of air traffic and quite a few ships with Opfor mixed in - would have been useful to draw a patrol area, or select (as in the F1 attack function) and tell the assigned assets to identify. Otherwise I have to micro-manage an aircraft, get it to low level to id vessels, match altitude to id an aircraft, etc. Just a request but it seems with the ROE being what they are in real life this is the kindof thing that does happen.

You can:
1- got to the unit menu (right click) ---> Attack -----> "No AI Attack" for selected/all units. In this mode, the unit/noone will fire a shot even if marked as hostile.
or
2- check that in the patrol mission (or side ROE/EMCON) the ROE it's set for : "Engage unknown targets": NO and "attack opportunity targets" : NO. The unknown contat won't be engaged UNTIL it is marked hostile by user or side posture.

I think just a typical patrol mission will ID unknown contacts.

Alternately an intercept mission set to trigger on "Unknown" will scramble the assigned aircraft that will then attempt to close with and identify the bogies.

Understand the ROE settings, but is an "investigate and move on" mission possible? For example, in the case of an unfriendly (but not hostile) side, units will ID a target but remain in close contact instead of moving to other unidentified targets in the patrol zone. Great if its a CAP remaining in close contact with an unfriendly fighter for example, however I doubt I want my Orion on Sea Control patrol loitering around that unfriendly CG just waiting to be lit up.

This is it exactly...

good point. we are all waiting for this feature to come. until now, not possible. You can micromanage and drop contacts already id'ed or manually classify them as friendly/neutral. They will be dropped by the chasing planes

IIRC aircraft that are on patrol and do not have a suitable weapon for this target will behave as you describe.

;) but when the contact turns out to be hostile - scratch one a/c.....

Sunburn, pretty sure you are mostly right on this although I don't think its limited to just not having a suitable weapon. For example, in one particular scenario an Iranian UAV is marked 'unfriendly' and my flight of F-18's are hovering over it waiting for it to turn red I guess, ignoring everything else going on in the patrol zone. Its not a huge bother, but just one of those little things to micromanage.
