AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/17/2015 9:49:04 PM)

In Finland, the CW find a handy time to roll a four.

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/17/2015 10:07:50 PM)

The RAF rebase a Mossie to Estonia and a Spit to Denmark.

No Reorgs.

M/J 1945 Axis 6

No DoW

Germany Land, Japan Naval, Italy Air.

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/19/2015 8:01:35 PM)

M/J 1945 Axis 6

The Italians send their Nav's a Lnd and a Ftr to the West Med 3-box. Another Ftr flies to the 2-box for some hopeful additional support.

The Japs attend to CP escorts, load 2 units onto Trans in China Sea, bound for China and send 3 subs after US CP's.

M/J 1945 Axis 6: Naval Combat

The Japs fail to locate the CP's in the Hawaiian Islands and Polynesia.

The Italian force in the West Med manages to surprise the RN (1 vs 6). With no Italian navy to worry about, everything with wings is scrambled for fleet defence. It gives the RN a marginal advantage (+1:-1). Over 10 rounds the air battle goes against the RN who lose 5 CVP, rest aborted, against the Italians 1 Nav destroyed and a Ftr aborted. Despite their surprise, RN AA gunners send one NAV back to base and cause another to bomb short (9 on highest of 1). The resulting strike is highly effective, including the Anson on her first mission.

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/19/2015 9:51:16 PM)

With their air wings in tatters, the RN decides to save what it can and heads back to Gibraltar. The Italians are left in command of the West Med.

No other air action.

The Germans rail a couple of Divs to the French coast to take over guard duties and free up more potent units for elsewhere.

M/J 1945 Axis 6: Land Movement

Two Germans units move inland from the French Atlantic coast. Anti-partisan ops continue in Yugoslavia. The Germans fall back to a river defensive line in the Baltic States and northern Russia.

M/J 1945 Axis 6: Land Combat

The Germans have just one land combat against partisans in Zagreb. It goes in a +12 and with a roll of 12, two partisans are destroyed.

A couple of air rebases occur to adjust the fighter cover over the Reich following the recent losses. The Italians shift one to replace the fighter that was covering Rome.

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/20/2015 6:36:22 PM)

M/J 1945 Allied 7

On a 2, the weather packs up everywhere but the Med.

No DoW

US Air, rest Land

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/20/2015 7:03:44 PM)

M/J 1945 Allied 7

An uneventful impulse. The Russians slightly close up to the retreating Germans but can't move too far due to running beyond supply range. The CW find the same.

A couple of air rebases to get units near the front.

Hodges, Alexander, Wavell and a US ATR reorganise 2 Ftr's and 6 Lnd.

On a 9 the turn continues

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/20/2015 8:30:04 PM)

M/J 1945 Axis 9

No DoW

If all pass there is a 50% chance of the turn ending. The Axis decide to go for it.

On a 5, the turn ends.

J/A 1945

Allies win the initiative and go first.

No DoW

On a 6 the weather turns fine except storms in the Nth Monsoon

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/20/2015 8:51:07 PM)

At this point, it's time to bring this game to an indefinite halt as an Axis victory. The Allies are a long way from defeating any of the 3 powers and while part of me is tempted to see how long I can keep the Axis going, I really want to start another game with oil rules included. The game is saved, so it can always be resurrected as and when I fancy the challenge of the prolonged defence.

It just remains to say thank you to all who have followed this and especially those who have contributed comments along the way.

Back soon

Regards

Thanks for putting in the effort to write up this AAR. They're a hella ton of work, and I appreciate anyone who's willing to take the time to craft them, on top of playing WiF (being a time and effort-intensive game to begin with).

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/20/2015 11:59:44 PM)

Thank you for your appreciation.

It is extra work but it's also quite enjoyable exercising the creative faculties in a bid to make it vaguely entertaining for potential readers. I would encourage anyone to have a go. The more the merrier and the better and more lively the forum would be in consequence.

Orm -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/21/2015 9:59:50 AM)

Thank you for the fun and interesting AAR. I almost feel bad that it has ended, but with the new AAR the fun continues. [:)]

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/21/2015 10:34:42 AM)

Thanks Orm.

I wouldn't write it off completely as it is set up nicely for the miserly defence challenge so may yet be resurrected. Just not for the foreseeable future.

Centuur -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/21/2015 4:52:08 PM)

I've enjoyed this one a lot. Thanks for doing it...

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (2/21/2015 5:37:25 PM)

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

John B. -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (3/12/2015 1:35:15 AM)

Just tuned in to catc up on aars and saw that you had finished this one off. It was very interesting and informative. Thanks again for all of your effort.

AllenK -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (3/12/2015 5:23:03 PM)

Thanks for the appreciation John.

I hope you will find the AAR of Mayhemizer and myself locking horns equally enjoyable.

Mayhemizer_slith -> RE: Decline and Fall The Long Way Round (3/13/2015 10:05:20 AM)

After the start in our game I would be amazed if USSR holds that much ground in 1945...
