DeltaIV -> Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (8/26/2014 5:39:07 PM)

Hey guys,

i've spent quite some time on this scen and I believe it has some potential (hopefully). Always wanted to do Svalbard (Spitzbergen) scen but they were either bloated or unplayable for some reason. So here's my newest installment.

97AU, took me almost two days, i hope you will like it. There are too many events and things going on and i guess that it won't be very easy to play, so it comes with two day duration. It also contains some limited land combat which i tried to abstract to some sensible level.

There are probably many ways to win this one and i'll be more than glad to hear every comment or result. [:)]

Also i'm sure that there will be probably some bugs or inconsistencies, please tell me.

NATO vs. Russian Federation

Location: Arctic Ocean

Playable Sides: NATO

Introduction

As the Cold War 2 rages on and nuclear arms race erupts once again, both east and west struggle to secure more strategical resources. Recent mining operations performed by Russian miners at Barentsburg, Svalbard discovered massive desposits of Uranium. Diplomatic tensions between both sides led to cancellation of Svalbard treaty, signed in Paris, 1920. Quick Russian invasion led to occupation of whole archipelago and Russians are now fortifying their positions, seizing four villages and the largest settlement - Longyearbyen along with 2,500 inhabitants. As the worst possible January snowstorms rage over the archipelago, nearest NATO vessel, amphibious assault ship USS America changes it's course towards the Svalbard.

Vici Supreme -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (8/26/2014 10:07:31 PM)

Just finished the mission! Nice one! I did a 3 mission-campaign based around Svalbard in 2030 for Naval War: Arctic Circle some years ago [:D]
Very challenging without AEW and proper SEAD equipment but there are ways to fool the Growler. I used my tomahawks with their imaging seekeras as little UAV's to find and classify objects.

Nothing big but this is what I would consider:

1. USS Thomas Hudner will be one of the new Burke's that features new electronics. I would be careful about taking the platform of USS Truxtun as a basis. In the end you have to change it as soon as the database features the new Burke-class ships.
My advice on this one: take an existing Burke destroyer!

2. I think LRASM should be fielded by 2020, right? Enough said! [:D]

3. In the briefing you said that LAV's are going to carry out the amphibious assault. As far as I know LHA-6 America does not have a well deck in favor of larger aircraft facilites and fuel storage. Maybe change the briefieng or try to find other ways to carry out the landing. (ok, this may be really of the topic and doesn't affect the game at any point but it matters if you want to go technically correct)

Cool that someone brought Svalbard into Command(I would have done soon or later [;)]). Looking forward to any prologue or sequel of this!

Lawdog1700 -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (8/27/2014 1:59:39 AM)

For what its worth, I can confirm that U.S.S. America (LHA-6) was designed without a well deck. She is designed more with Ospreys and helicopters in mind.

Chayak -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (8/27/2014 2:24:26 PM)

As others have mentioned the LHA-6 does not have a well deck as it's focus is on air operations. It would be paired with a well deck equipped LHA to allow the other ship to focus on ground ops while the America provides air support.

Gunner98 -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (9/1/2014 1:10:36 AM)

Nice scenario.

With some effort I managed to suppress the AD. Interesting way to handle the S-350 radar - not quite sure how it worked but it did make it more dodgy as to who I could hit when. There is still a jammer out there that I couldn't get either. Anyway, SEAD effective, ships sunk, hellfire and 30mm took care of the infantry. My ships are still outside the harbour at scenario end. The mine clearance task is ongoing, no subs encountered. Only one of the teleports seemed to work, two others are hovering in the target area without activating and the 4th is on the way. Tuna for dinner [:D]

Observations:

Sub is surfaced at start
Points are a bit too generous, sitting at 3000 and it has been at Triumph for a while
An escort for the Russian Amphib might be in order, the MCM isn't doing the trick.
Some MANPADs with the infantry would liven things up a touch

Good game, its all about SEAD, once you have that sorted out it’s a tad easy.

Nice one. Took several attempts to figure out how to knock out the Air Defences, still lost one in the final attempt though. I also lost the sub to mines in the channel.

I agree with Gunners observations, and i wonder if the F-35 loadouts make sense.
Aircraft loadout effects on RCS are not yet modeled in CMANO (unless i missed something, but they probably wouldn't give their stealth advantage away just to carry more bombs, and fueltanks they don't need.
GBU-24 E/B´s could be considered useless since there are no Bunker targets and terrible visibility, but then there is enough time to reload.

You did. Just for reference, I ran an experiment against a Big Bird (SA-10 search radar). Support mission right over the radar site, all three planes being assigned to the mission to make sure they followed the same route. The F-35 with external loads was detected at almost three times the distance as its internal counterpart (116 nm as opposed to 41), and the F/A-18 non-stealth control group was detected at almost 197 nm.

Awesome! We are slowly getting there, i must have missed a lot while inactive for 1-2 months.

Flankerk -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (9/6/2014 2:47:17 PM)

scored 2750, was a bit careless with some F-35, all seemed to trigger correctly. Struggled to find Pyramiden defenders, all as expected though, tricky especially at the start.

mikeCK -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (9/22/2014 12:57:34 AM)

I'm interested in testing out attacks with the LRASM...has it been added to the scenario since the first post?

DeltaIV -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (9/22/2014 5:29:14 AM)

It will be updated soon, didn't have that much time for CMANO lately :-)

xavierv -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (9/27/2014 7:52:16 AM)

A good tactic to neutralize the SAM threat is to use the terrain to your advantage:
http://imgur.com/6bL2gtv

Seems like radars can not "see" sea skimming objects when there is a mountain in the way, so use the fjords! (just like a commander would do in real life i guess).

Pretty impressive BTW to see that CMANO is so close to reality for this aspect.

Dimitris -> RE: Into The Storm, 2020 -- new beta for testing (8/13/2015 8:27:03 AM)

Is this ready for release?
