Hello there. I've been playing this game by PBEM with a friend for a while now. Rule 17.2.1 states that in 1943 if one side or the other has 4 times as many VP's as the other that the game ends. Does this take place in the beginning of 1943, and is there a way to continue the game despite the automatic victory conditions being met? My opponent is very good and in one of our first games had reached the automatic victory conditions in May of 1942. We are about to start another game and it would be disappointing to have the game end at the beginning of 1943. By the way, this is a very good game. Rather addicting as well.

After 1/1/43 the victory conditions are checked every turn.

It is possible to continue playing after auto-victory.

Thanks for the fast response Bullwinkle, I'm happy to hear that we can still continue a game even when the automatic victory conditions have been met.

bloodybill,

I'd encourage you to go on past May 1942 in your future games, even if it looks like autovictory is assured on 1/1/43. Your opponent didn't reach the automatic victory conditions in May 1942, because there *is* no autovictory in May 1942. It doesn't get checked until January 1943.

Just because the Japanese player amasses a 4:1 lead in May 1942 doesn't mean that he can hold that for the balance of the year. See what unpleasant surprises you can spring on him to slip him at or below a 3.99:1 ratio. [8D]

Remember that when trying to avoid auto victory even 'disastrous' tactical results can be good strategic results. If you lose 3 battleships to his one, it may look like you are losing, but you actually are evening up the points ratio to avoid a 4:1 AV. Same thing with air engagements. Even if you bleed 3:1 in air to air, you are actually clawing back from AV.

You should also think about how important every point is for you. For every point you can scrounge your opponent needs 4. Start using all your engineers restricted to CONUS to build up airfields.

Thanks for the advice. I did make a lot of mistakes in my first game, one of which was to delay building up my bases Stateside for a couple of months.

I agree- a Japanese player that far ahead in May 1942 might actually run into serious problems when you counterattack as the Allies against what is probably a way overstretched Imperial Empire. unless of course he sunk every CV & BB you have :)
