GreyJoy -> Wanna tell you a story... (9/16/2014 5:20:11 PM)

Want to tell you all the amazing story of Petty Officer 1st Class L.Fujimatsu.

A story of bravery, tragedy, hope and redention.

The context: PBEM match against Obvert (DBB-C, Stacking Limits, PDU OFF).

Fujimatsu starts the war as one of those crack pre-war pilots aggregated to the Tainan Ku-S1 Sentai.
He distinguished himself over the skies of Luzon, during the first weeks of war (collecting 2 kills), then over Singapore.
During the invasion of India, he has been ordered to fly LRCAP missions from the newly conquered base of Diamond Harbour and sweeping Calcutta skies.
In one of those days, after having shot down his 4th and 5th enemy planes (thus becoming the first ace of the Empire), his A6M2 didn't come back from a sweep mission over Calcutta.
The whole Air Ministry mourned his death, the death of the first ace.

For the next 2 months, Japanese armies successfully advanced in India, reaching the gates of Dehli and Bombay.
During that advance, many allied positions were overridden and so were many POWs camps.
62 days after his "death", in a place called Lucknow (sometimes a name tells more than a whole story), some 100 miles south of Dehli, a IJN pilot was found by a scounting patrol of the Japanese army.
He was just a shadow of the man he used to be (49 experience from the 82 he used to have!!!), but there were no doubts: it was L.Fujimatsu, the first Japanese ace of the war.

After the honours reserved to a conquerer, Fujimatsu was sent to Japan to recover (General Reserve).

70 days to recover were enough.
Fujimatsu was then sent to the newly formed 2nd Ku-S1 Sentai and sent to India, again.
Now, after several weeks of hard fighting over the skies of India, he's leading the Sentai with his experience.
The scars of the captivity will probably never go away (hard to get back to 82 exp), but now he can have his revenge and fight for his Emperor.

The details of this game keep on amazing me....every single day

Yeah, he was crossing India on foot to meet Rommel in Abadan and fly some real fighter like FW-190, but then the locals showed up...

By the way, where can I get some arrows like that to use with GIMP ?

Jorge_Stanbury -> RE: Wanna tell you a story... (9/16/2014 5:56:58 PM)

Maybe he lost an eye or a hand during captivity... he can still flight; but never again as good as before

It's one of the features of normal "paint"

Exactly! Just like Saburo Sakai!

Love these stories[:)]

A less noble explanation is that perhaps the computer simply recycles names!?

I was watching a documentary the other night; Saburo Sakai flew like 4 hours with a bullet in his head( it is a long way to Rabaul)... he had to keep pinching himself to avoid falling sleep... tough guys, really tough guys

I don't think so. If you look at the screenshot taken from Tracker, it's the very same pilot. Can see it from the same mission flown when he gets rescued after the captivity (same kills, same mission number, same name)...just the lowered experience

Yup!
If I remember well from his book, he also couldn't move one of his arms and several times he defenetly lost consciousness just to wake up in the middle of nowhere with the plane flying down-under...
All of that in a badly damaged A6M2... from Lunga to Rabaul...

I think "SUPERMEN" is the only word to describe that generation...

Amoral -> RE: Wanna tell you a story... (9/17/2014 4:46:43 PM)

High command is pretty stingy with promotions...

The game engine does recycle names, but the mission count is contiguous, so I think it is the same pilot.

Bill

Encircled -> RE: Wanna tell you a story... (9/17/2014 11:12:20 PM)

When does he meet Kate Beckinsale?
