GreyJoy -> DBB latest A/C modifications (9/19/2014 9:29:24 AM)

Hi all,

I would like to share with you my modest opinion about Symon's latest modifications on A/C performances embedded in DBB.

As some of you may remember, I had tried with Mr.Kane those very same modifications during our game. We started with the old DBB files, and upgraded to those modifications in early 1944.
After some heavy furballs, I asked mr.Kane to get back to the old files cause I thought those new performances were unbalancing our game.

Now I see the problem involved in that decision of mine.

We were playing with PDU ON and with the 2nd mnvr band HR. Those settings were to blame, not Symon's new files. I am sorry.

Now that I'm playing with Obvert with the new files, they work just perfectly. We are playing PDU OFF and with this HR: max alt for CAP and SWEEP: 15K in 1941, 20K in 1942, 25K in 1943, 33K from 1944 (to avoid the strato sweeps).

The air war so far has been very balanced, fun and realistic, under every point of view.

I cannot but say that every single modification the DBB team has done has been for the best so far. I should have been more carefull before expressing negative opinions. I apologise. Now I am an happy consumer[:)]

Thanks again

GreyJoy,

I could not agree more, I love the effects of the air changes. In my game vs AirGriff that is in mid September of 1942, playing with PDU ON and but no other air combat HR we found the changes were far better than stock.

Hi GJ,

Just FYI, never took your criticism as anything but constructive. Always glad to hear from folks that have constructive suggestions.

So glad you worked this out to your satisfaction. Really like it when thoughtful folks work through the implications and come to an understanding about how to deal with them. Your thoughts are warmly welcome.

Especially impressed with the fact that you took the time to post your thoughts after you worked things through. Almost nobody else does this, so your post is especially appreciated. I am very pleased, heck, I am beyond pleased.

It's people like you that make this whole endeavor worth while. Buon per te, amico mio.

Ciao. JWE

I concur. This aircraft data set is incredible and even better then I had hoped- Amazing comes to mind. The game in question is DBB-C, which is outstanding as well, in late May 42. As much as I want to enjoy the next game year, I am very excited to get to mid-43 and see what the new Jack and George do vs the USAAF crates.

One question that I have forgotten though and am having little luck (pre-coffee today) finding the answer to. I seem to recall that the aircraft data was in a folder that could simply replace the old data set such as in a several years old 1108r9 build and move on with life. That is was as easy as that. As I recalling that correctly?

In a sense, yes. But I'm going to have to give you a Mongo explanation. Once you read it, you will see that it is simple and straight forward, but does not conform to conventional forum 'recieved wisdom'.

1108r9 vs 1123x10 build has nothing whatever to do with our Scen data. It is devised to work with whatever exe (official patch or beta) there is.

Some modified Scen Data files will port into ongoing games (no matter what the exe is). Some will not (without careful preparation, understanding, and patience). Luckily for you, the Airplane data file is a top-level file and can be adapted into any scenario with slot # >25 (The other one is the Device data file).

So here you are, and you want the new Airplane stuff, and you don't know if it will fit/port/work with what you got. Ok then. It will. Trust me, so long as your game scenario has number greater then 25.

Download any DBB scen from the website. They all have the new Airplane files. Don't unpack it. Look in the zip and find the file wpa0xx.dat and pull it off to desktop. Rename the wpa0xx.dat to wpa0yy.dat, where yy is the two digit identifier number of your scenario.

Drop that file into your Scen folder and you will be good to go.

Ciao. JWE
