Whatever happened to JWE whomeverhewas? His wisdom was beyond anyone's I'd heard of before. I think his analytics were particularly incisive. Time and again he straightened out noobies as well as veterans. Forumites hung on his every word. I know we all have to sacrifice, we can't all remember the Golden Age of JWE, but we can solemly mark the anniversery of his passing.

Sorry JWE, I just couldn't help it.

I miss Jim Kirk. [;)]

Oh! We're not talking Trekkie stuff; my bad.

Don't think for a minute that I missed this! You are now on one of my lists. I can't remember which one or what it's supposed to be about, but you're on it! You will be able to see my agents through the corner of your eyes. Don't attempt to focus directly on them, if you do you will see nothing but imaginary constructs. Choose the red key and push the button that opens the trunk, then jump into it. A guide will lead you to the bottomless pool of truthiness.

<Faces Canoerebel a/k/a Dan>

Hand Salute! Good to hear from you again, Sir! You were one of the reasons I made the jump to PBEM.

<Faces Grafin Z.>

Hand Salute! Art, humor and an excellent understanding of AE. Miss you!

<Faces Cuttlefish>

Hand Salute! Cuttlefish wrote the greatest AAR of all time and that was the other factor that convinced me to go PBEM.

Finally, I would like to add a less familiar name. Temagic. Temagic followed my game against Cuttlefish religiously and was so positive about both my play and my AAR that it really kept me going. It may sound weird, but when I won that AAR I felt like I gave him a shot in the arm, and I sort of mentally dedicated that victory to him. Temagic confided in me that he was going through a LOT in real life, and that my AAR against Cuttles was a bright spot in a dark time. That made a world of difference in my motivation to keep up the work that is AE. I haven't seen Temagic in a long time, but I wish him well. So, wherever you are, old friend:

Hand Salute!

Stupid question: What happened to Cuttlefish?

I was thinking about the people here who have passed in recent years. Des has been mentions. Sonny and Mike Scholl were on the development team and they have both passed since AE was released. There was another guy who as a history professor or something who died suddenly. I recall he died suddenly around Christmas. Only a few days before he had been holding court on his latest issue. I think his name was Hans, but I'm terrible with names (I've had brain farts and forgotten my own name).

If someone just drops out of sight, we wonder what happened to them, but there is always the chance they will be back someday. When people pass, it's a lot more final.

Bill

Bill, that was Harry Erwin. I forget exactly what he was a professor of but it wasn't history. It was computing or some engineering related to it. He mentioned his prior work with the acoustic model that bats use, if that rings a bell.

He's about. Over at Mad Dogs all the time, fighting the good fight from his zombie apocalypse bunker. [:D]

If John and Cribtop (and Miller) paid more attention to the Forums, they'd realize I was still around and contributing important information about them. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3687228&mpage=2&key=

See Post 38.

NEVER underestimate the power of a true Southerner. I went to the link and burst out in some serious, soul-cleansing laughter! Well done Sir.

Ron Saueracker -> RE: An Ode to missing/lost AE players... (9/24/2014 12:14:55 AM)

Heyho all. I'm still here but have been patching up my situation after losing a crapload of time and cash after the eurobank collapse which saw me come home to Canada with my financial tail between my legs. I'll be looking for a jfb for a pbm camp soon. Anyone want to slap around a veritable plankowner?[8D]

John 3rd -> RE: An Ode to missing/lost AE players... (9/24/2014 1:56:36 AM)

RON! Good to see you alive and reasonably well.

btd64 -> RE: An Ode to missing/lost AE players... (9/24/2014 4:16:49 AM)

I asked my wife to post to this forum in case of my passing. She has the password. Last year was a wake up call for me. Spent 17 or so days in the hospital. Many of them in intensive care. It got real. I have since lost almost 50lbs and moved to Ohio to be closer to my bother, who I haven't had much of a relationship with as kids. My wife finished her job in Massachusetts and came out here last june. My daughter is at this moment on a train heading out hear. I have lost good friends and family over the past 10 years. I guess the older you get the more this happens. I hold my family and friends, who are still with us, very close to my heart. Just the other day I got a letter ,that was forwarded from a friend of mine, from the parents of a friend of mine who was one of the few who paid the ultimate price during the first gulf war. They wanted me to know that they found a picture of him and me, dressed up for holloween as soldiers, armed with the most hightech water guns we would find. Well, RIP Tim....GP

Great idea on this thread, John III. Sorry to hear about your business, Mr. Saueracker. I've always thought you had the best sig. However, as someone who's had the odd dalliance with strange microbes, ChickenBoy, the Tropical Disease Fanboy, comes in a close second.

Oh, and yes, please come back Grafin Zeppelin with your classic rampaging teddy bear gif.

Cheers,
CC

Hi Ron! Nice to hear from you. I always enjoyed your posts, and I learned quite a bit from them.

Off the top of my head I'd add LocalYokel, The Elf (thanks for your service), Seyditz (liked his Soviet invasion back in the day) and Fletcher.

John 3rd -> RE: An Ode to missing/lost AE players... (9/26/2014 12:43:30 PM)

Hadn't thought of those people in a LONG time. Good additions Sulu.

Yeah, haven't even seen The Elf lurking in a long time. Based upon what JWE has written, it seems they are at least still in communication. Still, it would be very nice to see his login appear again ...

Yeah, LocalYokel hasn't been around for ages. Really grateful to him for doing my sig line (totally beyond a computer illiterate like me).
