Just a question...so many people have mentioned how they would like an update of Steel Panthers...

Couldn't there be a graphics only update...with no changes to other areas of the code? That would significantly simplify the effort...and maybe at a cost that those of us who love the game could afford to pay...

Is this possible? Not a programmer...but I've seen some excellent examples of programmers fixing a problem of this scope...

I'm pretty sure you have to have the code to even attempt it, and that is not forthcoming [:(]

Best Kickstarter project would be a SP clone built from the ground up, IMO.

But how about doing just new graphics (terrain icons etc.)[8|]? Not any code changing needed at all[:)]...

Oh believe me, if I knew even the first thing about programming.

I dropped out of a computer science class in high school because I couldn't grasp C++ in any shape or form.. and that was ten years ago.

But as they say, where there's a will, there's a way. I did learn a good bit of HTML on my own, even designed my own webpage when I was in school.

Now, wife and baby, mortgage, full-time career, online classes toward my bachelors.. but who knows [:'(]

You know, I'm not a programmer by any means ......

But I wonder, I wonder in TYOOL 2014 if there are modules/libraries/add-ons/software/whatevers that can be hacked on to the existing program. It's as old as the hills C++ isn't it?? There's nothing out there?


Take a look at any Map using Chlanda's WaWMap program ..... I dunno, it looks a lot sharper than how the game renders it. How Come?

Maybe there's something that can be done.

The Camo dude's did it (on an even older code - I think?) <-so it can't be that hard? Right?[:D]

I used to play this game non-stop. However, with the graphics on the large monitor and windows 7 I deleted the game. I would love to see the graphics updated and I do have the game installed on my old computer which is running XP

SPWaW is the prime reason I'm still using XP.

I am able to play using WIN 8.1 in windowed mode using XP parameters (although my Navy IT tech son-in-law set it up for me)! So it is possible for someone who wants to get a new computer with win 8 to still play this great game!

I feel bad when ever someone says they can't enjoy the game with Windows 7. I have the game running fine on three different Win 7 systems, two multicore AMD desktops and a laptop with an Intel chipset. It also worked OK on my last laptop. Graphics are fine and only the slightest lag on the artillery screen.

Before giving up on SPWAW on Win 7, try making sure you are starting the game with this line in your CMD file:

start /B /WAIT /AFFINITY 2 mech.exe

Personally I do not use any backward compatibility modes or admin mode for SPWAW, but I do use an admin account.
