27th Feb, 1944 SS Crevalle sunk by E W-25 near Wakkanai. SS I-26 sunk by SC-744 near Satawal. A/C day losses: Japan(143) Allies(102) Central Pacific HQ: 69 P-38J of 7th USAAF swept Babeldaob. They meet 27 N1K1-J from 381 Ku S-1 and 42 Ki-43-IV from 54th Sentai. For cost of 25 Lightnings they managed to destroy 25 enemy fighters. I do not understand this results, P-38 is superior to both Martin's fighters, all my pilots are close to 90 exp, 75-80 air skill. I have altitude advantage either. :( He has sent too two groups of Ki-48-IIc heavily escorted by fighters against my transports at Woleai. Woleai is protected only by VMF-441 with 18 Hellcats, however transport were protected by 3 CVE. First group of 29 Lilys escorted by 64 Ki-43-IV and 36 Ki-84r was forced to withdraw after loosing 29 dive bombers and at least 3 fighters. Second group of 24 Lilys escorted by 84 Ki-43-IV, 27 N1K1-J and 42 Ki-84r has lost all bombers and at least 18 fighters. Next Woleai was swept by 33 N1K1-J. Allied losses are: one CVE damaged by 2 100kg bombs, 4 FM-1 and 21 F4F-4. Southwest Pacific HQ: 32 Spitfires swept Tarakan at early morning. 43rd and 22nd Bombers groups with P-38 escort managed to sunk or damage 2 TK, 4 PB, 1 E, 1 DMS and 5 xAK today. Allies losses are 21 B-25D1, 4 B-24 and 4 P-38. I need remove escort, for unknown reason all escorted strikes set to at 100 feet were traveling at altitude 5k ??? :( Next 35th FG swept Brunei exchanging 25 P-47 for 30 N1K1-J, 23 Ki-84a and 20 Ki-84r. Southeast Asia HQ: Units of 14th captured empty Pegu.

That is a staggeringly high loss rate of aircraft on both sides. How long can either or both of you maintain operations with losses that high?

I do not have shortage of a/c except maybe P-38J, B-25D1. For 5th USAAF this is the last battle of Oil Campaigning. Next will be during Philippines invasion in 2nd half '44.

28th Feb, 1944 SS I-168 sunk by DD Aulick and CL Cleveland near Satawal. A/C day losses: Japan(43) Allies(46) Southwest Pacific HQ: VF-71, VMF-217, VMF-224 swept Burnei today. Defenders form 343/1 Kukotai, Hiryu-1 and 25th, 29th, 50th, 87th Sentais counter with 9 N1k1-J, 47 Ki-84a and 21 Ki-84r. I have lost 17 Hellcats and 4 Corsairs for 32 Ki-84a, 8 Ki-84r and 4 N1K1-J. Just 2:1 kill ratio :(. Over Palembang 16 SBD-3 was intercepted by 14 Ki-84r from 203rd Sentai. All 16 bombers did not return.

29th Feb, 1944 SS I-25 damaged by SC-634 near San Francisco. A/C day losses: Japan(18) Allies(10) Southwest Pacific HQ: Eight US destroyers shelled Babeldaob at night. Raid was interrupted by night attack by 15 H8K2 and 11 G3M3. Raid ended with one plane destroyed on airfield and five planes shot down by warships AA fire.

3rd March, 1944 A/C day losses: Japan(138) Allies(60) Southwest Pacific HQ: Marine squadrons: 111, 211, 212, 216, 217, 218, 222, 223 and 35th FG swept Miri with high cover from 51st and 49th FG today. CAP form 343/1 Kukotai, 29th, 50th, 78th Sentais consist of 24 N1k1-J, 68 Ki-84a and 42 Ki-84r. For cost of 19 P-38 and 8 F4U my pilots managed to shot down 65 Ki-84a, 48 Ki-84r and 22 N1K1-J. Kill ratio 6.9:1 very nice :D However, there was not enough enemy planes for all my pilots in air and 35th FG did not meet any opposition. Southeast Asia HQ: 10th USAAF and RAF bombed and swept Lashio airfield. First attack at Tanung Gyi was not success for Australians troopers, they lost over 40 squads for 3 enemy squads. :( But intel suggest he continue withdraw towards China, so base will be soon in my hand anyway.

A/C day losses: Japan(24) Allies(5) Southwest Pacific HQ: US Destroyers were again under night attack for side of 3 H8K2 and 16 Nell. 6 Nells and 1 Emilly become victims of ships AA fire. Next destroyers bombarded empty airfield at Tarakan. Southeast Asia HQ: RAF Sqadrons: 11, 34, 152 swept Taung Gyi. 34th meet in air 13 N1K1-J and managed to shoot down all of them without losses. 10th USAAF and RAF bombed and swept Lashio and Taung Gyi airfields.

This time I have lost 12 P-38 and 2 F4U for 24 N1K1-J, 24 Ki-43-IV and 8 Ki-84r. Kill ratio 3.29:1 not bad.

BTW: I have to reschedule landing on Guam due to game issues. Allied DS and invasion forces did not land today on island, all my task forces withdraw 5 hexes towards Truk due some mysterious air threat at night ??? On islands there is 150 fighters and 24 bombers, it this real threat for DS with over 1k planes on board ?

I have seen every kind of TF retreat from "enemy air threat". I think the aggression level of the commander is part of the calculation, but I always use "Absolute" threat tolerance for TFs that MUST follow orders and not respond to some AI routine. Set your TFs to absolute and send them back in. Put one squadron of fighters on night CAP in case that makes a difference in the "threat tolerance" calculation.

I had already set "Absolute" thread tolerance and 20 nigh fighters on CAP. Anyway they are ordered try one more time tonight.

7th March, 1944 - Marianas Island Campaign Day 1. A/C day losses: Japan(164) Allies(5) Southwest Pacific HQ: B-24 of 5th USAAF launches night raid against Miri oil. No losses on allied bombers side, 6 night fighters shoot down by rear gunners and 104 oil wells destroyed by bombs. Very very nice :D It it the last place with oil he has outside China or Japan. Central Pacific - Battle of Guam island - Day 1. Amphib did not unload due my orders fail. The were still with order "do not unload" :( However my bombardment forces did wonderful job closing level 8 airfield on island and destroying ~160 planes on ground. 8th March, 1944 - Marianas Islands Campaign Day 2. A/C day losses: Japan(104) Allies(28) Southwest Pacific HQ: B-24 of 5th USAAF launches night raid against Miri oil again. This time rear gunners scored 13 night fighters and bombing eliminated 25 oil resources for cost 2 B-24D. I continue my air campaign over Miri today either. 35th and 475th FG swept Miri and for cost of 16 P-47 my pilots eliminated 53 N1K1-J and 21 Ki-84r. It seems my air offensive temp is taking toll on his pilot morale and fatigue. This time it was easy walk for my fighters trough his CAP. Most of P-47 lost are ops losses due operating on extended range 9. Anyway 4.5:1 kill ratio is not bad at all. Tomorrow Miri will be visited by Lighting and Corsairs again. BTW. I am very surprised that he does not produce N1K2-J. Well it is does not perform so well like N1K1-J but it is much easier keep them flaying form medium and small airfield. Central Pacific - Battle of Guam island - Day 2. This time US divisions landed on Guam. Two divisions and 4 tank destroyers, 4 Art Regiments, 1 combat eng. unit and 1 HQ are already on island. I have high hope for my M-10 to eliminate fast his tank and let my infantry take care rest.

This time rear gunners scored 13 night fighters and bombing eliminated 13 oil resources for cost 8 B-24J. It seems to me they need rest for while. Marine squadrons: 111, 211, 212, 216, 217, 218, 222, 223 swept Miri with high cover from 51st and 49th FG today. Enemy put a fresh units on CAP over the base: 127 N1K1-J, 30 Ki-84r. For lost of 15 P-38H and 8 FU4-1a my pilots managed to destroy 50 Gorges and 23 Franks. Kill ratio 3.1:1 not bad but not so good either. Anyway we will see who will win this battle soon. Central Pacific - Battle of Guam island - Day 3. My amphib taskforce is returning to Kavieng. Still not trace of KB. Echelon of 50+ subs between Japan and Marinas and between Philippines and Marianas are not reporting any Japan fleet activity. Strange !!!. Southeast Asia HQ: 33 Franks from 13th Sentai managed to intercept my bombing raid vs 37th IJA Division. Losses are noticeable: 13 Hurricanes and 5 Beaufighters.

Enemy raised CAP again, so it is not the end :) 57 Gorges and 54 Franks engaged 75 P-38J and 46 Spitfires Mark VIII. As usually Spits and Lightnings do not perform well against Gorges :( So it was 3rd attempt to use them offensively, no more try. Additionally VF-71 swept Brunei were they meet 21 Gorges and 13 Franks. So, day summary is not optimistic :(. 9 Hellcats, 18 P-38 and 13 Spits for just 39 Gorges and 23 Franks. Group of US destroyers were attacked by over 20 B7A2, 9 planes become victim to ships AA without hit on destroyers. Central Pacific - Battle of Guam island - Day 4. First attack on Guam did not go well, but it is not surprise. However I had hopes for fort reduction, but Gods of dices decided otherwise. A/C day losses: Japan(50) Allies(13) Southwest Pacific HQ: Marine squadrons: 111, 211, 212, 216, 217, 218, 222, 223 swept Miri with high cover from 51st and 49th FG today. CAP over the base was composed of 57 N1K1-J, 5 Ki-84r. For lost of 10 Corsairs my pilots managed to destroy 45 Gorges and 2 Franks. Kill ratio 4.7:1 nice. 22nd Marine Regiment, 37th US Division and 1st (Spec) Cav Division landed at Rabaul. It seems to me it will be nice place to gain some experience for those completely green units. Central Pacific - Battle of Guam island - Day 6. USN is continuing bombarding runs from Truk under cover over 1000 Hellcats and Wildcats form 5th Fleet. Still no trace of Japan fleet. It looks like he will not try actively defend island again :)

13th March, 1944 - Marianas Islands Campaign Day 7. RO-66 sunk by DD Cowell near Guam. I have 20 DE patrolling direct path between Guam and Truk, sending there sub is suicide. :D A/C day losses: Japan(106) Allies(21) Pacific Battle of Guam island - Day 7. 4 Emilys and 12 Nells attacked my destroyers taskforce during night shore bombardment at Babeldaob. The destroyers manage to shoot down 2 H8K2 and 5 G3M3 additionally to several damaged planes on airfield by bombardment. I mess-up orders of two PB4Y squadrons on Borneo. They should night search/naval attack but they went for port on Miri. They did not score any hits on ships, however for cost of 4 Liberators they shoot down 14 night fighters. VF-2 and VF-3 swept Tainan today. Enemy CAP consisted of 48 Oscars and 17 Gorges has been completely annihilated, for cost of 5 Hellcats they loose 33 Oscars and 13 Gorges. 9.2:1 Kill ratio very nice. 35th FG Swept Burnei today, by mistake they should be attacking Miri ;). Marin had there 36 Gorges and 11 Franks on CAP. Price for 35th for Shooting down 40 N1K1-J and 7 Ki-84r was 8 P-47D2. 5.87:1 nice kill ratio either. Question how many N1K1-J he still have ?, according to my Intel he has already lost 2272 of them !!! And this is the only a/c in his arsenal with is really shooting down my sweepers.

14-30 March. 1944 Marianas Islands Campaign Day 23th Sorry for lack of update, first I got sick for week. And next I have lost whole content of my HDD thanks to excellent work of Avast anti-virus software team and my overwhelming trust that they know what they are releasing !!! So no real update today. Generally I am still fighting on Guam, it does not look good, I am loading 2 more divisions however it seems that game has some problem with this idea, it is 9th day and my TF is still loading troops in port size 8 and hundreds navy support stuff :( Spidery send two CA east of PH and managed to sink one of my a new CVE. In Burma slowly marching through Jungle, no real progress. The only success is that I have finally managed to eliminate Miri as oil supplier for Empire.
