Who am I supposed to root for now? The NL team or the MO team?

Trugrit -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/17/2014 11:16:30 AM)

If you were watching the Giants game last night you would have seen something
that has never been seen in the history of baseball.

"In fact, not only did Ishikawa become just the fifth player with a walk-off hit in a decisive NLCS game. He was the first to do so with a home run."

http://m.giants.mlb.com/news/article/98797886/giants-travis-ishikawa-joins-rare-company-with-walk-off-homer

As a NL Braves fan I'm pulling for the Giants but I don't think they can beat KC.

wegman58 -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/17/2014 11:23:02 AM)

Out of the starting field, no awful result can happen in the World Series (Yankees, Dodgers, Oakland, Braves, St. Louis, Philadelphia are AWFUL results - I grew up a Met fan who is the son of a NY Giants fan).

Now in Minnesota I'm stuck with the abomination that is the DH but I see the Royals on TV fairly often and in person once in a while. The Giants are still traitors - leaving NY, but the crime is the Dodgers - they wanted to leave and the Giants went with them (so I missed Willie Mays in his greatness).

Congrats to the Royals!
Great to see a team that hasn't been there in a long time succeed, hopefully they can win it all.

bush -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/17/2014 1:39:23 PM)

I have to admit baseball has fallen off my radar since 1994. They quit on me so I quit on them and have never gone back. Yeah, I can hold a grudge. Shame really. I used to be so into it, especially through playing table top APBA.

Streak ended !! [sm=mad-1003.gif]

I'm with you, bushpsu. However, I am real big on SEC Baseball. [:D]

Hail State!

Alas and alack, the Nationals are done. I used to catch 6-9 games at the Big Owe when I lived in Vermont. I went to watch my Mets, but there were some REALLY good players in Montreal in the early 1990s.

ckammp -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/29/2014 1:37:12 PM)

Game 7 tonight.

Good luck, Royals!

John 3rd -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/29/2014 5:27:55 PM)

Damned STRAIGHT on that! Just to get to the World Series, after so long, is great but I want the whole ENCHILADA!

SuluSea -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/29/2014 9:41:02 PM)

I haven't been watching much post season because the evil empire isn't playing.

I've been rooting for the Royals since they played the Orioles and hope they win out tonight.

Best of luck Royals and their fans!!!!

wdolson -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/31/2014 1:06:37 AM)

I guess John isn't very happy today. Sorry to hear the Royals came up short.

It sounds like Baumgartner had the best few games of his career and they happened to line up with the World Series.

I wonder if this was the first World Series where two wild card teams faced off against one another?

Bill

John 3rd -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/31/2014 1:17:57 AM)

What I wouldn't give to have Baumgartner on MY SIDE!! Fantastic pitcher.

Too bad for the end but what a ride it was. My boys go to be reaquainted with their Father after 31 days of playoff baseball!

The entire team should eb back for next year. There is always hope! GO ROYALS!

geofflambert -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/31/2014 1:25:09 AM)

I think it is (edit: in regards to the two wild card teams). The name is actually and literally Bumgarner. It probably derives from Baumgartner which I think would mean forester. Anyhow, I think he should be given credit as credit is due. In the end I was rooting for KC. Do you know what "Kansas" means? It means 'people of the west wind'.

ckammp -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/31/2014 1:30:51 AM)

The first World Series with two wild card teams was 2002, the Angels defeated the Giants 4-3.

Congratulations are in order to the Giants, but also to the Royals, hope it won't be another 29-year wait!

geofflambert -> RE: OT: What a Game! (10/31/2014 1:34:45 AM)

I've been told that the west wind symbolizes reason. This makes "Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore" carry more weight.

As long as they don't beat the Cardinals because Don Denkinger's ghost was about.
