Flef -> Adding map services (10/7/2014 11:44:10 AM)

Hello,

I would like to embetter the standard map of the game. I thought I could use the common free GIS services (as an example ArcGIS online) to do it. But I do not have a clue of how to proceed.

I think it could be an interesting feature.

as an example a brighter map for the Latakia battle:

or a detailed map for a Cyprus invasion starting in Ayia Napa

After we might be interested in some exotic features like Topographic maps. As an example the US topo maps can provide some stuffs:

here is the Porthmouth/Norfolk zone.

and it is all known in geodetic coordinates

Or may be we could be interested in more basic features like... having the display of the country names all over the world

There is a lot of possibilities with this.

Hi...

Concur - I think at a minimum - labels for countries, islands, and major cities would be a big help... I'm not always as familiar with the region I am working in - as I should be...

Regards,
Scott

it is only a shapefile actually for countries and so.

There is a free resource for countries administrative boundaries here with .KMZ and R formats here : http://www.gadm.org/country. It won't be problematic for me to extract a Lat/long/country name list in WGS84 if somebody is interested in.

I think a close up view of Ayia Napa would be very distracting to the player - anyone who’s been there might vouch for that[:D][sm=party-smiley-012.gif][sm=kiss.gif]

Sorry - a little off topic [sm=sign0006.gif]

Don't forget, you can add custom overlays...many different kinds of maps(including 9 different ArcGIS maps)...along with ways to reduce size http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3428983

Yeah I know about custom overlays but I wanted to cover in detail really large areas like the entire Cyprus island or Koweit without needing a complete tiling of the country with tenth of thousand of pictures. See me as a lazy boy :p

However I didn't knew about the already made arcgis Maps. I gonna have a look for them. Many thanks.

I would really like the map to have have options of naming the population centers and geographical features… Not just for gameplay… But it would make the game extremely educational… I've traveled quite a bit it in my life and I really like geography…
