USScoralsea -> efedit.exe error (10/20/2014 3:27:50 PM)

While placing units on the map in the scenario editor the program stopped and displayed the following window-efedit.exe has stopped working. My map and oob are large...is this the problem?

berto -> RE: efedit.exe error (10/20/2014 4:08:40 PM)

Large size might be an issue.

If this is a repeatable error, please do a save just before the error, and post the save file here. (Zip it, then rename as a .txt file, since .zip file uploads are not supported.) Describe the exact action that leads to the crash.

Also, what do the error.log and edit.log files say? Any ERRORs? If so, post them here too?

Here are the error logs. Error.log and edit.log. Please let me know what you find.

The very last line of edit.log is

2004-08-26 01:05:46 efedit.exe: [INFO ID 1] efedit.exe exit

which is the report of a normal program exit, not what one would see after a crash.

Anyway, I suspect that the .log files will be of limited use here. What I would really need are the files (.map, .org, .scn, ...) that together make up your scenario.

The edit crashed on the very first unit placement? Do you remember which unit? Where?

2.02, right?

USScoralsea -> RE: efedit.exe error (10/23/2014 2:30:46 PM)

I tried a few different units in different locations,sometimes i would get the error message and sometimes the program just froze. I am running the game on a brand new PC with the 2.02 update. My map,oob and scn files were created on my old PC with 2.00. With the old PC I got to a point where the scn program always froze, so I thought I should upgrade the hardware. I loaded the map,oob,scn files into the new PC after upgrading to 2.02. I was able to continue working placing units (a few hundred )in the scn program with no problem untill now.

Thanks so much for all the help.

To sum up:

  • You are working with a large map and OOB.
  • The scen editor stopped working on your old system.
  • Everything is fine on your new system, one with more RAM (and presumably faster processor and newer OS) than the old.

    Is that correct?

    If so, from your standpoint, great, problem solved!

    From my standpoint, it's useful to know, because it suggests that for large maps and OOBs, I need to look into the code in situations where large maps and OOBs might begin to overload system resources.

    Thanks for the input.

  • USScoralsea -> RE: efedit.exe error (10/23/2014 5:04:10 PM)

    Sorry for the confusion,my new upgraded PC with more RAM, faster processor and windows 7 OS allowed me to continue programing the scn editor for a while but now it is stuck.

    Crossroads -> RE: efedit.exe error (10/23/2014 5:05:20 PM)

    That is quite a scenario you're working with [&o]

    I have quite a modern rig with Campaign Series installed on a SSD.

    Opening the Map Editor with your map? Opens up quickly, no issues. Organization? No issues either.

    Then, the Scenario Editor loads this for a good few minutes, while for an example Org Editor boots up rather quickly thanks to my SSD access speed.

    Once the scenario has loaded, it tends to freeze though, no matter how long I wait. Somethings going on, obviously. I can but provide another confirmation there's issues with handling a scenario file of that size.
