I tried to play game and got startup error.Do I have to be online to play it?
It's installed on hard drive but do I have to be connected to steam to play?
I drive around a lot(I drive a truck)and sometimes can't get a wifi connection.
If this is the case I shouldn't have purchased it.
just so you know I've never used steam before and will not anymore if this is correct.[:@]

Yes, Steam requires users to connect when starting a game. With some of their games you can disconnect from the internet and still keep playing.

Glad I got it from Slitherine, so I don't need to worry about that. I buy games though Steam, but that sort of thing is one of the factors that makes me reluctant to do so.

You get a free Steam key with your Slitherine/Matrix purchase so I always purchase directly from them.

Well I guess I just threw 29.95 away.it' interesting that the game is taking up hd space but can't play it without being connected to steam,
what is the benefit to use steam as opposed to matrix, both digital dl'd and one requires a connection to them to utilize
their product?steam will be scrubbed from my hd and its product also.

There isn't really an advantage buying from Steam verses directly from us (especially as you get a free Steam key!). That said, I am fairly sure that you can set up Steam for offline play too:

So hopefully you can keep on Piking (and Shoting, I guess...)

Cheers

I play every game I have with Steam set to Offline Mode. Steam no longer needs you to even be connected when you first run the game, just to install it. I haven't had problems with this game running in offline mode.

However, there is a minor issue in that you need to run the game launcher instead of the game's exe file. Apart from that, it works fine.

I do think, however, you need to manually put Steam in Offline Mode to have the least amount of troubles. Click on the Steam menu in and select Restart in Offline Mode.

However, I run most Matrix games using their installer directly, instead of through Steam. For Pike and Shot it is installed through steam because the download from their servers were much much faster. It took about 10 to 15 minutes from steam and over an hour from Matrix. Matrix's version is fully DRM free and can be installed and run without an internet connection. The best way to run games in my books.
