Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> What is your favourite Mega Campaign (2/25/2003 4:02:01 AM)

They have been with us a while now.

Which is your fav Mega Campaign?

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (2/25/2003 4:03:59 AM)

I voted LV myself, even though my longest running run through has seen me do fairly lame on performance heheh.

Belisarius -> (2/25/2003 4:21:35 AM)

Vote for LV here as well, as I had no time getting my hands on Desert Fox before it ran out. :p

LV would probably stand pretty good even if I had had the chance to play the others. It's gooood.

Supervisor -> (2/25/2003 5:46:42 AM)

I voted or Desert Fox because I love Tank battles, but I think LV is the best overall of the bunch just edging out Watchtower(it's only downfall is length).:D

Jim1954 -> (2/25/2003 9:36:58 PM)

Lost Victories, I suppose. I like the combined arms core force better than heavy armor, ala MCNA, or infantry as is MCWT.

They are all good, and the best thing about having them all is being able to switch to other theaters of war when I get bogged down in one of the others.

One of the best computer game investments I have ever made.

:D

rbrunsman -> (2/26/2003 1:14:58 AM)

I have Desert Fox and Lost Victories. I'm only 1/2 way through LV and haven't started Desert Fox, so it isn't fair for me to vote yet, but from what I've read, LV is so much larger than the rest and I doubt the others could be more immersive, that I think LV would have to be the best.

Jim1954 -> (2/26/2003 1:24:47 AM)

Bob, go ahead and buy Watchtower while you still can. It is SUCH a totally different theater and the whole FEEL of the campaign is totally different from MCNA or MCLV. You wanna talk desperate H-to-H combat !and you rarely feel that you've got them on the run. Only 5 battles into it so far, but you don't get to see many Force Morale Broken results in this one!

WB at his best!!!

:D

rbrunsman -> (2/26/2003 3:35:00 AM)

I thought all the MCs were sold out as long ago as 8 months. Did a treasue trove of previously unknown CDs suddenly get discovered? Or did I miss a re-release at some point?

Thanks for the recommendation Jim. But, with all the PBEMs I'm doing now, it will probably be 2 years before I even get through LV and DF.

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (2/26/2003 3:52:07 AM)

MCs may well go down as the ultimate "you fool you should have bought em while you could" software.

For instance, can you even name another piece of software out there that would demand such lamentations when a person missed getting one?

Can you name a game that really compares with an MC for bang fer buck appeal.

When was the last time you saw someone even comment they would pay full price for something that had long since gone out of availability.

I have seen quite a few games come and then go, and no one really cared after it had had its day in the sun.

The next version rolls out and poof the old game is no longer interesting.

I have only ever really played one other game I think will really never fear for being "turfed". I still enjoy playing Heroes of Might and Magic right back to version 2 (tried original, but it won't run on 98 SE even).

Jim1954 -> (2/26/2003 4:23:58 AM)

I thought that Watch Tower was still in stock @ Matrix. According to gmenfan, chips and bits still has MCLV.

I dragged my feet when the Novastar Disks were available for SP1 and didn't get any... regretted it many times. I was determined not to have the same thing happen with the Megas. CL may be in re-release before I ever finish all of these MC's but I'd rather that than not have gotten them.

just my $.02 worth.

:)

Supervisor -> (2/26/2003 5:40:20 AM)

WT is still in stock in the Matrix store and C & B's and LV is still in stock at Chips & Bits, when searching for titles at Chips & Bits, do a keyword search for the title and not the game name such as Lost Victories or Watchtower as opposed to Steel Panthers, it reveals a better result by titles. You snooze you lose I guess, there will always be Combat Leader.:D

RayM -> (2/26/2003 12:11:55 PM)

Watchtower was a great culmination of my exposure to SPWaW for the Pacific. Great game!

Warrior -> (2/26/2003 7:26:00 PM)

Since I was a Team Captain in the development of Operation Watchtower, I may be biased, but it's my favorite. I helped test Lost Victories, and got terminally frustrated by always getting bogged down in the mud. I also tested Desert Fox, and love it, but still think WT is best overall.

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (2/26/2003 10:10:22 PM)

The problem with MCs is there won't be any more sob:(

That one might be better is inevitable, as one has to be.

But I can't see any point in not getting all three.

Now Steve, you know the real reason is because Sgt Averitz didn't get the KC at the Dnieper:D

Vebber crawls forward to Sgt Averitz who is at the north point of the newly won bridgehead. The wooden buildings 150 yards ahead were smoldering in spite of the rain. The smell of burning flesh and rotting corpses is pungent in the air as the rain lets up. In front of Averit's unit Russian dead are piled up and the flies are starting to swarm in. "Out for a walk, herr hauptmann?". Vebber laughs at the joke and sinks down into the mud next to Averitz. "Good work, Stephan, you and Schnurrbart did a great job breaking up the Ivan attacks". It looks like we have a solid bridgehead for putting the bag to Budenny. You are going to be relieved soon. It looks like we are going to get some dry weather too. Was the island pretty tough, Averitz?" "Not as bad as that 37mm gun at the bridge over there. I though we really had had it when it opened up". Vebber motioned to the bloody bandage on the sergeants left sleeve. "You better get that looked at, Averitz". "It's just a scratch,herr hauptmann. A couple more and I will get the gold badge."

Gen.Hoepner -> (2/27/2003 6:00:01 AM)

Voted for LV

I got only DF and LV....

Well,DF has got that terribly bug that makes the new tank crew come without name and with an average of 20 in the stats...

LV is complete:many different type of battles
a superbe History text
a combination of passion and knowledge

PS:Stg averitz died during my second battle...his sobstitute is called Rosember:D :D ..no future for Aveitz in Russia for me:o

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (2/27/2003 8:35:54 AM)

My first encounter with DF, mines AHHHH I hate mines.
Stopped the MC and went and hid back in LV for quite a few battles.

Played a test game of WT, then re started after playing a few turns.
Man it is something else being given a lot of dudes and no armour at all.
Made it through the first battle though, and lo and behold got a few vehicles Yeah (insert lame enthusiasm hehe).

But LV is definitely the best balanced game.

Probably the problem with DF, is desert terrain. Hmm sure not very colourful, nothing but dirt hehe.

But all things considered, man I am glad I have all three.

If I had known what was coming for me on the East Front, I would have deserted then and to hell with the KC. Instead I got killed. :D

Is Matrix in a position to burn copies of MCs if the end recipient is ok with getting an ad hoc copy of their product?

I ask this, because I think there are at least a few persons out there, that would not object to paying for a MC even if it meant getting a copy from Matrix that didn't have the nice label and card sleeve.

I could do as much and so couldn't others, if not for the simple fact that would be the action of an *******.
But I think burning an MC at the Matrix office must be possible.

And last I checked, the label and the nice card stock cd cover had nothing to do with running them:)

dox44 -> MCampaign (3/5/2003 10:23:55 AM)

Watchtower for me!

nstalker -> (3/5/2003 1:17:01 PM)

MCs are a great concept and I had the pleasure of working on all of them - hmm my favourite would have to be Desert Fox something about Desert Warfare. Followed by Watchtower then LV.

Actually the best thing about working on the MCs was the other guys in the different teams. Talk about dedication and the 1000s of hours spent on them. I really think they should be reissued.
