wac29 -> Improved CV mode (11/11/2014 2:34:12 PM)

Thank you to everyone who put 1.08 together.

I am playing a game with improved CV display set and have a couple questions/comments

It is great to see how changing leaders affects the CV.

I can see once the game gets to 1943 there are going to be a lot of hexes with 100+ combat value. All these stacks are going to show "x". It is going to be laborious to manually calculate the actual totals over and over again when planning attacks or preparing defenses. Can the CV display change from "x" to the three digit number either with smaller point size and still display on the counter or the same point size and flow over the counter edge?

Yeah, that's the downside of the larger CVs (but small ones do not give enough infomation, with most units being 1s or 2s). I don't know if I can change the fonts on the counters to smaller size, but I could add the sum in the tooltip.

In my view, the mode is invaluable for seeing how the game works in tests, but a retrograde move towards player omnipotence in a game. It's not far off old board games where you tot up the odds to ensure you get the right result. Personal choice, but I'd never use it in H2H.

Be interesting to have no combat value numbers. your units men, equipment and a more detailed recon info of enemy units men, equipment. Descriptive words can replace a lot of the numbers. Give it a 'fuzzy' feel that could make interesting combat.... human or AI.

KWG
I see a few issue with this concept. Some will get their own calculator built to determine values and have advantage. Think showing values is best.

+1. And an estimation of aspects of enemy unit quality.

Yes fog of war, even a little for a players own side. The fuzzy would help to prevent a formulazation of "always do this" in order to "always achieve this".

I will use those ideas if I ever make my own wargame :) I'm all for immersion, and words are better at creating it than numbers.

Given your track record here, I'm pretty sure I'd like it and buy it. Go on, you know you want to ;)

Yeah, but who will pay my bills during the time I will write it? If I'd solve this problem, I'd quit my current job instantly. I hate writing code about money, stocks, transactions, taxes and the like. I love writing code about war.

Well, I'm sure I couldn't pay your wages, but I might chip in if others would.

careful guys, you just might get what you wish for.

Eeeek!

morvael -> RE: Improved CV mode (11/12/2014 6:20:47 AM)

I don't think so [:)] The only way for me would be to take part in a lottery and win the main prize. I do have some money accumulated, but I'm not brave enough to quit the job and enter the dangerous world of indie game development.
