davebob -> Air organization (11/11/2014 6:25:23 PM)

At this point, I organize air units in 5factor single like units, as in 5 fighters,5 dive bombers as the airfields are factors of 5. All under a single HQ containing staff and engineers (airfield construction) on rail so that I can move some planes in the rain. Is there any advantage to putting mixed air in the same unit? 2 Is it my imagination or does the ai know when I have committed escorts and intercepts to its advantage ? 3 Is there a way to disperse interception ? My fighters seem to intercept enmass spending their ap on smaller, less important attacks,leaving no one to intercept large, important targets.4 Does an airstrike on an unknown unit or airfield have less favorable results? Errrm,,hidden airfields ?

Aircraft do not get leader bonus so no need for a specific hqs for them. I assign my aircraft to the senior Hqs of a front or the Supreme Hqs if I have no front Hqs yet.

Davebob - so you are saying airfields can only support 5 air units?

Depends on the mod and the specific game. You can check the level allowed in that specific game. 5 is way to small though.

I think davebob was saying that he just sets up his units in groups of 5, not necessarily that the airport only houses 5 without penalty. In my games (using the Lancer mod, which I don't believe modifies the airbase limits) the non-penalty limit is 100, with fighters counting 5 towards that limit and other planes 10. I usually have a 10-fighter unit and a 5-something-else unit at each airport, which brings me right up to the limit.

I do like the idea of transporting my rail in the rain. Hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

In vanilla, where bombers are 1,and fighters are .5; airfield stores 10,city 10,capitol 20,air factory is 5. So bases are in factors of 5. With unit size at 5, one can mix different groups with an easier accounting method. Didn't know leaders had no effect on combat.I assumed they did as my air leaders acquired experience in combat,tho slower than land units. Do air units toward staff totals ?
