IronMikeGolf -> Radar/Radio Intercept Markers (11/25/2014 1:44:41 PM)

I'd like to see markers on the map for units spotted by counter-battery radars and airborne SLAR. Ditto for HQs spotted by radio intercept and direction finders.

These could be partially transparent to give a visual cue that they are not being reported by eyes on the ground and could disappear after the current command cycle (assuming the target is not re-detected)

Jeff, that is the plan for 2.1

I was jus about to post the same suggestion, great to see that my wish will be granted! This may stimulate more behind the lines activity..
I was also wondering if some info on the calibre of the spotted tubes should be added (I am no expert on this, but I'd guess that one could make an educated guess based on what has been raining on you).

Never served in a TAB, so I can't say for sure, but I have to think a counterbattery radar can classify mortar, gun, howitzer, or rocket based on flight path. Unit receiving fire could likely classify as to gun/howitzer, mortar, or rocket, based on the sound the projectile makes. Caliber, too. But that hinges on personal experience in the unit. No idea if a radar can tell caliber. Maybe.

Distance of the fire would give a basic indication of caliber in some cases. In close ranges that may be harder.

I was thinking how an S2 might classify the short range stuff, too. Under 2KM, it's a good bet that's a mortar bty. Then there's templates, etc...
