sitito -> Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 1:57:27 PM)

Im the only one or anyone else thinks that the game is boring as hell, and the scale, in ground units, space and time is completely wrong?? Love AE and Wite with his flaws, but this one it’s a big letdown. I know there is a lot of work and love behind and i have to plunge much deeper inside the game but my first impressions are really negative (by the way, i like the new logistic system). I dont like the new air system and the amphibious one its too much abstract to my taste. Endless IA turns and simulations of all kinds, but really nothing that hook me on to spend hours and hours into it. I was expecting a hybrid between Wite and AE...
My two cents.

Why yes you are [:D]

KWG -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 2:07:20 PM)

The logistics system is great.... Give it all some time and explore deeper.

Grotius -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 2:19:36 PM)

You're the only one.

Have you really learned this new air system? If you like AE, you should find a lot to like in this air model, which in some ways surpasses AE's. In this game, we can set staging bases to help coordinate our strikes; in AE, we can't. In this game, we can plot a hex-by-hex air path to target; in AE we can't. In this game, flak is a physical obstacle on the ground that you have to plot around; in AE, it exists only in the target hex. You think all of these cool new features are a step backwards from WITE or WITP/AE?

Helpless -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 2:29:33 PM)

Seriously, you definitely not the only one. During the testing process we heard a lot of critics as well.

I think that WITW is kind of the game were you need some efforts to "see the forest through the trees". It might take some time. Personally I really like WITW more than WITE, despite the fact that eastern front is my favorite TO. After 3 years of development I still find it fun to play even against myself. For me system is really shining in smaller scenarios. Data/scenario guys did outstanding job and it has a lot of immersion once you starting to understand how it works.

SigUp -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 3:05:54 PM)

It would help if you elaborate a bit more on your issues. But so far, nope, don't understand your complaints. And this is coming from someone who is more of an East Front aficionado with its gigantic ground battles. I originally didn't intend to buy this, but the logistics and air system convinced me otherwise and I love it.

sfbaytf -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 3:09:11 PM)

If you bought the full copy with hardcover manual ill buy the manual from you so you can recoup some of your losses.....

I really agree with this. In WitE I hardly played the non-campaign scenarios, but in WitW I find them to be very interesting.

1st impressions are generally 50% of the time wrong.

The air system is the best part of the game in my opinion

Your 2 cents? I think it is more like your 7,999 cents worth.

Give it more time sir.

Can you expand on that ? I don't have the game yet, but I was also a little bit scared of that

Baelfiin -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 3:25:17 PM)

Hey guys

WitW is not World of Tanks

There is so much going on at all different levels you have to sit down and learn a little. The boys have done a great job with the one page guides and player guides that you really have many resources to use.

In my opinion you should take the one page guides, print them, get them blown up, laminated and then hang them all over your war room. They are that good.

dereck -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 3:36:03 PM)

I think this game is great. I may be frustrated occasionally (okay more than that) ONLY because I am in my 50s and only have been able to go through the manual on PDF and then can't find things (must be a generational thing). I know once I get the hardcopy manual I will be able to read that and then be able to find things when I need to.

Until then I use the forum to get answers. Read through the posts and you will find there's always someone who will answer your questions.

Is it a game you can play right out of the box? No. But none of Gary Grigsby's games are. They all have learning curves but believe me the time spent learning the game will be well worth it as anybody on this forum can attest to.

SigUp -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 3:39:45 PM)

Oh, while we are at it. The new weather system is great. No more suddenly blocks of terrain get a weather change simply based on the roll of a dice. And it's much more flexible than in WITE. No more entire chunks of land having the same weather on cue. The only thing I wish would be that the weather effects be a little more visible on the map. It's hard to tell whether a hex is clear, or mud.

Smirfy -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 3:44:31 PM)

I should have researched more before buying if I knew the teleporting HQs remained a mechanic, I would not have purchased. Air so far has been my favourite part of the game as for the rest for all the rules and whatever is going on under the hood the map scale appears too small to have fun. Im hoping the longer scenarios are more engrossing than Husky

SigUp -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 3:47:24 PM)

Funny that you mention teleporting HQs and not teleporting units. [:D]

But seriously, making HQ displacement THE reason not to buy it? That sounds awfully picky.

sitito -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 4:02:00 PM)

[:)]Love u guys.

My big issue its that I don’t find the game exciting at all. That’s all folks. Enjoy if u like it. Have fun and be happy. But I find it extremely boring. In all the ways. No deep naval simulation. ..like in world of tanks [;)]. We cant handle the production but we have to handle the strategic air warfare…makes no sense in my idiotic mind. Beside that I don’t really enjoy Bombing the Reich type games. I don’t really care the strategic air warfare. Can I find it tedious? Can i? I know, i know…im just crap…but thats how it is life. And the 10 milles hexs, 1 week, division level dont suits fine in this game as in the east in my dumb opinion. But yes yes you can move air bases, see a lot of data, make planes paths and wank yourself watching 20k planes sorties in 30 min of IA simulation to see how u destroy oil synthetic plants during a year until D Day while u are at the Gustav Line making front assaults against the mountains. Have fun if u enjoy this. I don’t. And as i said YES i have to get deep inside…but my first view is this. God forgive me….I will learn everything to master it and to be awarded by the grognards awards...but im afraid that even in that situation i will still find the game boring...or maybe not. But just in case...take my last statement as the good one..i mean this one: the games is freaking awesome. Great naval, air and ground simulation...i was kidding. Fantastic game. Lets forget about this topic and lets keep on playing....ohhh waitttt there are 30 more fun min of the IA processing the turn...joking, joking..Peace and love and War in the west!

Smirfy -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 4:06:50 PM)

Teleporting units have not been that much off a factor yet and have only grated slightly despite routing over the straits of Messina. As if there would not be a few "Kettenhunde" with SMG's at the ferry terminal to "rally" them. Its a crap lazy mechanic. If a unit routed in such circumstances it would simply take its uniforms off and hide until the allies rolled over them. HQ's in WiTE teleporting out of pockets killed all immersion dead, no Sixth Army surrenders in that game. I actually cant believe these mechanics remained in game.

Thanks very much! I'll give that a go this evening [:D]

SigUp -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 4:09:41 PM)

Well, that's a pity, but you have nobody else to blame but yourself since everything you are complaining about was advertised for a long time.

I'm sorry, but what? I don't think you understand what the HQ stands for in this engine. The HQ isn't a compact unit like a division. It's a command structure. The units attached to it aren't physically at the place of the HQ so to speak. HQs teleporting out of pockets killing the immersion? The commanders and their staff weren't all killed in a pocket. Many times they were air evacuated etc. Heck, even Paulus and his guys could have gotten out if they were allowed to or wanted. No 6th Army surrenders? Its divisions can surrender, that's all that counts. And by the way, 6th Army rose again four weeks after Paulus' surrender.

Im not blaming at anyone im just saying i dont like the game. Its not for me. Its great game in a lot of ways. Great improvement in logistics, great fun for fans of Bombing the Reich and western front lovers...For sure. Interesting air system...not for me, but interesting. Great game in many ways. But not for me...at the moment and for what i have seen. Im glad u enjoy it. I dont like the Lord of the Rings too. Can i say so? I will not blame Tolkien...but i dont really enjoy his universe. Thats all...

You must have very old PC or resolving it on high details as on my ancient E8400 it takes up to 5 min. to resolve 40-50K sorties.

Smirfy -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 4:19:50 PM)

My first words were it was my fault but there you go can never take for granted a computer game. Like I said I hope the longer scenarios are more engrossing than Husky because its as dull as the opening poster says. The worying thing not for me I can always replace the money is I dont think patches are going to improve things much.

JocMeister -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 4:38:21 PM)

I wouldn´t say disappointed. But when WITE came out I couldn´t stop playing. Every free minute I had I spent with WITE for pretty much a year. Not sure why but I don´t get that with WITW. Instead I find myself playing CMANO or watching a movie. Played through the tutorial twice and started a Battleground Italy scenario but after 3-4 turns I just felt "meh" and quit.

I´ll give it another go in a couple of weeks. Mostly disappointed in myself for not enjoying the game as much as I had hoped. [:(]

sfbaytf -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 4:50:12 PM)

I bought the full boxed version of WitE when it first came out and I've hardly touched it.Finally bought CMNO when it went on sale and I've really haven't play that much.

Probably at some point the East front and modern naval bug will hit and Ill end up playing.

Combat Mission Beyond Normandy got bought when it came out and sat doing nothing after a few games against the AI. Didn't bother getting Fortress Italy and Gustav Line. Then I tried out the games again and then tried h2h and suddenly I owned all games and have lots of h2h games going on and waiting for Black Sea.

You never know when the urge will strike.

Same feeling...

Dr. Foo -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 5:18:19 PM)

My main concern is can Germany win the larger scenarios? I play WitE and mostly I play as Germany, I play the 1941-45 scenario. I get to a point where it's just line after line after line of endless Soviet divisions. As I grow weaker, they grow stronger until my advance just stalls.

Granted, I am not an advanced player and I probably could be doing a lot of things to improve my play, but I’m playing mostly for fun.

With WitE I feel like Germany has a chance, if you can get key areas early and make big gains the German player can win.

Here…I’m not so sure, the allies are so strong from the start. Does Germany stand a chance?

sfbaytf -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 5:24:41 PM)

They have said it is possible for Germany to win.

If the 1941 North Africa module was out, you could possibly have the over 200,000 experienced Axis troops captured in 42 to use.

Its too bad a what if campaign was in the game where the Axis had those 200,000 troops abandoned in North Africa to use.

You could probably add them with the editor.

Baelfiin -> RE: Im the only one disappointed? (12/12/2014 5:27:54 PM)

Its very winnable as Germans in the campaign when you go by victory points.
