r6kunz -> Ardennes 1944 v.5. (12/15/2014 11:57:14 PM)

In remembrance of the 16 Dec German Ardennes Offensive, here is the latest version of Ardennes 1944.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/y2s4po1hilffzeo/Ardennes1944.zip?dl=0

Designed using TOAW 3.4 and Opart 3XBb.
Thanks to feed back from play tester, especially Fulcrum and curie6857, and Oberst Klink, I reworked some of the terrain and Allied forces around Bastogne so the 2.Pz and PzLehr have a chance, with careful planning, to follow their historic paths slipping around Bastogne

The scenario was designed and tested with the Human player as the Germans vs Allied PO. It is certainly a challenge for the German player in PBEM.

It is also interesting to note, and difficult to model, how inefficient was the historic Allied endgame. Historically, the Allies were not able to take Houffalize until 16Jan., whereas the PO Allies are able push all the way into Germany by game’s end.
I have made several modifications to game parameters to handicap the Allies in January.
I will be interested in hearing how others fare in staving off the Allied offensive

The .doc says it's v. 1.3? [&:]

r6kunz -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (12/17/2014 1:57:14 AM)

still the original .doc, only the .sce has been changed. I will change the .doc to reflect the current .sce to avoid confusion.

About to play-test it, Doc. Me trying my best as Germans.

I have downloaded and unzipped into the proper directory I think - it won't load - any ideas?

You need to use the unofficial Opart3XBb.exe to run this scenario. There's a thread that explains
what it is and does.

I hate to ask, but what is wrong with 3.3.0.6?

Nothing is wrong with the version, but an old version ain't be able to load a scenario created with a newer one. I always keep the old Opart3.EXE, rename them, e.g. Opart3306.exe, then update to the latest patch. I got all Opart3 from 3.2 to 3.4, plus of course the 3XBb.exe :)

Where does one get the 3xBb.exe??

Thansk

CIB was basically automatic. This is a civilian.......

r6kunz -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/9/2015 5:03:28 AM)

Yep, pretty automatic. I think 30 days with an infantry unit. My EIB (Expert Infantryman Badge) was a lot harder to get (only two in of our battalion in Germany) than my CIB ...but that is a story for another day.

And Herr Oberst, thanks for posting that link to the WWII Museum. It looks like a lot of good presentations on Facebook. I wonder of Col Glantz has made one? I was there last year, still growing but well worth a visit.

Now I guess we are really getting off topic. Sorry.

DL'ed the scn - moved a few - I like the Losheim gap - KG Z/150 Bde/Skorzeny rocks - Panthers and Shermans ? I didn't know... Got a few RBC's & opened a decent hole...

r6kunz -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/9/2015 4:30:44 PM)

Grognard
Thanks for the feedback. Skorzeny had one M4 Sherman and
5 Panther tanks (masqueraded as M10 Wolverines)
5 StuG IIIs
4 Sd.Kfz. 250/1s
6 Sd.Kfz. 251/1s
6 M3 Half-track
6 SdKfz 234/1s
4 M8 Greyhound
12 motorcycles with sidecar -German
43 motorcycles -German
To get Peiper to Stoumont on the historic time of PM 17 Dec, he needs to use Skorzeny to clear a path, use the 3.Fallschirmjäger to push the cav covering force back with retreat before combats, and a bit of luck. I must admit that, vs PO, it took me several goes to get it right, but it can be done.

I have been playing vs Allied PO starting 16 Dec, day at a time. The German panzers were able to reach the east bank of the Meuse, and wisely chose to pull back to their own lines. It is now 9 Jan 45 and the Allies are steadily chipping away at the German perimeter and are making better progress than their historic counterparts. (historically they did not take Houffalize until the day after the scenario ends; in my game the Allies captured Houffalize on 4 Jan). I have used Shock and Supply penalties to slow the Allies down, but is looks like they need even more of a handicap. Too bad the Movement Bias cannot be event controlled.

The link to download the Opart3XBb.exe works, but it appears to be infected with a Trojan... any other way to get it??

Thanks

Where do I place the equipment file so it will work properly??

Thanks

I uploaded it to a file server just now. Try this link:

Michael T -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/10/2015 8:00:47 PM)

Is there another way to do this? Drop box maybe. I am not going to sign up to file dropper.

Michael T -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/10/2015 8:36:05 PM)

And could some kind soul explain what exactly Marquo and I need to do.

We are both using the TOAWIII installed executable with the latest official patch (3.4.0.202).

Is it simply a matter of getting this new 'unofficial' executable (3xB) and running that to open the game?

mmarquo -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/11/2015 2:17:41 PM)

Yes...but we need to reset...this patch provides much better results...

Cfant -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/11/2015 6:42:40 PM)

Sorry, I have no explanation for a Troja [&:] Norton doesn't show anything on my computer and I never had any issue with file-upload. You're sure?

mmarquo -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/11/2015 7:56:24 PM)

All I know is that my Norton warned me of a Trojan in the file so I did not download...got it elsewhere but thanks for helping.

3XBb.exe is a stand-alone and does not modify any registry entries. All versions and test-scenarios, plus the checksum, etc. can be found here:

Michael T -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/12/2015 8:16:43 PM)

What do you do with the checksum?

governato -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/13/2015 3:23:26 AM)

These should help.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checksum

http://download.cnet.com/MD5-SHA-Checksum-Utility/3000-2092_4-10911445.html

governato -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/13/2015 3:31:44 AM)

with the warning that once you save a PBEM move with the new exe you can't go back to the old one.

Michael T -> RE: Ardennes 1944 v.5. (1/13/2015 3:52:43 AM)

Ok thanks :)
