The Marines took Eniwetok against only one regiment of Japanese. Several sea interdiction strikes damaged one carrier group despite hundreds of defensive fighters. The screenshot shows the situation in the Marshall islands. Truk could be next or I could move back to Pearl to keep the Japanese guessing.

I thought it might be fruitful to do an airstrike on the Allied ships so I did and I got one of the CV's. That's something.

Oh no. Allied troops are found on the wrong side of the river. I'm going to have to scramble to contain this incursion.

New moves from Thomas, and he's invading again, this time Bouganville. He captured it without much of a fuss. My guys folded.

Thomas left some ships at the invasion site so I thought I'd help him clean up that mess a little bit.

The next Allied assault was on Rabaul. Paratroops took some airfields in the south of New Britian. And there's troops still floating
offshore that threaten another attack next turn so I have to get rid of them this turn. I could sure use a ship in this situation.

thomasharvey -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/7/2015 7:29:06 AM)

The invasions continue with a massive invasion of Rabaul, the largest of the war so far. Thousands of bombers, several BBs, 2 Army divisions, the 2nd Marine division and the First Marine Brigade finally took the objective.

A Japanese BB was also sunk off of Truk. Thousands of fighters are ready for the Bettys to send in their raid against the carriers.

One particularly heavy attack on the NW corner of the Hanoi perimeter caused everybody to retreat except for one engineer unit.
One more attack in that area will do it I should think.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/7/2015 8:04:05 AM)

Thomas and I have been trading airfield strikes for almost the entire game and this is the typical results we get.

thomasharvey -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/7/2015 9:18:11 AM)

The Japanese are very difficult to dislodge once they get entrenched in force anywhere. While the landing forces are trying to take them out the Bettys sink carriers no matter how many CAP fighters are sent up.

Therefore I immediately went to the Philippines to get ahead of the Japanese Army reinforcements. The screenshot shows Cebu and Leyte taken so I can set up naval interdiction bombers to slow or eliminate reinforcements.

I still lost a CV sending the fleet to cover the landing force.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/7/2015 9:59:39 AM)

You've seen the Allied view of Cebu and Leyte and here's the Jap view. I haven't moved anybody yet, I'm still taking pictures of the
aftermath. With Thomas's bases on Cebu and Leyte he can post some PBY's and spotter planes to prevent the reinforcement of
the Celebes and probably the South China Sea. China could be on it's own now.

Here's the boundry between north and south China. I've blown the bridges and posted some garrisons and I think maybe I can hold
back the horde another three turns or so. Depending.

thomasharvey -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/7/2015 5:32:13 PM)

The screen shot shows the status of the invasion of Davao on Mindanao. My original plan was to drop the airborne units to link up with the supply and the Zamboanga Peninsula partisans but that failed due to full Japanese division blocking that. Then the airborne had to be rescued by the invasion taking Davao. I used maximum firepower and a UN force to take the objective from dug in Japanese forces that included a full division and a brigade of elite Imperial Marines. Fortunately the position was taken and now the Japanese are out of supply ready for mop up. Objectives are not always taken as the Japanese "Hanoi line" shows. The British there are spent.

This shows it will be more difficult to advance with every attack. It is still a long way to Tokyo...

thomasharvey -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/7/2015 5:35:43 PM)

The invasion of Davao was successful using airborne units in the rear and heavy firepower from the narrow channel leading up to the objective. A UN force was successful in taking the all important supply port.

I used the wrong screenshot twice! Here is the correct one showing Mindanao.

Okie dokie.....new moves from Thomas, new turn. The Allies show how daring they are by taking on Davao next. D'oh.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/7/2015 6:10:45 PM)

I'm looking at the opposition and I found a fighter unit that has some kind of equipment that has a range of 29 hexes. I'm wondering
what kind of airplane could have a range of 29 and I keep coming up with the P-38 so I'm thinking that P-38's are starting to show up
at the front.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 2:16:38 AM)

New moves from Thomas, new turn. The Allies are trying to tackle Hainan now. The first assault didn't get ashore so I get a chance
to destroy the invasion flotilla. I'm going to fly a bunch of planes into the area and let fly.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/15DAE11FB8244CE7A957E0DB819BC5B9.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 2:39:33 AM)

I drove some ships from Japan to Hainan to beat up on that stack of Allied equipment guarded by some ships. I didn't see the BB's
acting as backup on the stack and I got slaughtered. I'm going to have to rely on air strikes to do the job.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 2:46:22 AM)

Here's an airstrike on the carrier stack. I think I sank the carriers present in the stack, plus some of the escorts.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 5:41:50 AM)

Okay, this is the next turn from the above shot and now the Allies are after that little island between China and PI. There's virtually
no chance that the defenders are going to survive. I have some airpower ready to go but last turn's airstrike gutted the air force.
I'm not sure what's flyable but everything that's ready to go will fly.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I meant to say something about the Carrier Fighter Group being in that stack with only a CL to land on. That's a
highly skilled crew there. A fighter group without a carrier in a stack violates a house rule and so therefore I win. LOL.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 6:04:41 AM)

And of course I did an airstrike against one of his carriers and got some hits.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 8:08:13 AM)

New moves from Thomas, new turn. During the night and early morning hours the Allies stormed the beaches of Formosa and he
captured the place. Almost the whole thing. It was amazing.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 8:27:06 AM)

Hey Thomas: You still have a fighter group stationed with a CL instead of a carrier. If it's not gone by this time next turn I win. LOL.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 7:38:10 PM)

New moves from Thomas, new turn. This time the Allies are gunning for the mainland and have made some serious incursions
along the coast and some paratroops have captured a lot of airfields. Needless to say the Allies aircraft fleet has moved into
southern China. Another game changer.

thomasharvey -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 8:30:17 PM)

The invasion of China has begun. It is a long term project but the Navy has been pulled from the battle due to heavy losses to Japanese naval bombers. While the navy is repairing and rebuilding more stress needs to placed on the Japanese Military Complex. The allied forces and weapons need employment as much as possible to keep the Japanese from building up massive forces for the fight of Japan itself.

As for the CL with the naval group, the air unit stays on reorganization. It refuses to get off! So I think in this version I can disband the CL and it will be replaced somewhere else without the air group. I will try that if it refuses to get off.

That is the one hassle having cruiser float planes, if you move the ships over or through a hex that has any naval aircraft the computer picks up hitchhikers. Or mixes and matches and you have to constantly sort them out again.

I am losing so many ships it is becoming less of a problem all the time!

I wasn't aware that we can disband ships now. I thought they were like aircraft and refuse to be disbanded because of the lack of a
menu option to do so. I learn something every day.

This is a close up of the Allied incursion on the mainland of China. I'm going to start a general pull-back and see what I can salvage
from this. Thomas will probably land some more troops and equipment yet.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 9:08:54 PM)

As you can see the supply level for the Japs in China has collapsed. This is because the Allies have dropped their paratroopers
in the spots that will cut off the ports from the interior. Schrewd

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 9:13:31 PM)

Here's how the air war is going right now. It's probably because I've pulled probably close to 70% of all the aircraft back to the home
islands. They are beat up and worn out from all the constant fighting. I've moused over some Allied aircraft and they are in the
shiney red stage a lot of them.

thomasharvey -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (3/8/2015 9:27:02 PM)

I was wrong, the ships can not disband. I thought they were like ground troops and they are not. I forgot that. The aircraft can not disband either. My mistake!

I can scuttle it by sailing into a shore battery. To take Formosa I noticed only the shore battery guarding the port so I grouped up over 20 DDs and sailed in there and destroyed it. All the DDs took damage. The turn after they were sailing south to get repaired when another sea interdiction strike hit them and sank 4 of them. I also lost another 2 DDs by sailing too close to the battery at Honk Kong. Once the shore battery was eliminated I walked ashore and moved inland unopposed.

If the plane will not get off I will sail it to Ceylon for an extended vacation.
