kula66 -> [FIXED] Crash running 1.06 on Win7 on Fusion (12/20/2014 2:33:20 PM)

I've been running Command with no problems in WinXP since v1 using Fusion. However, the last few versions update ok, but fail to run, so I decided to try on Win7 with v1.06.

So, setting up a clean Win7x32 system, install Command, install all pre-reqs, run the app launcher, click to start the game and crash with:

Any thoughts?

Rgds,
James

First try deleting your command.ini file and restarting.

Next I would try manually updating your pre-reqs

If on steam you can find them here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\_CommonRedist

If matrix here:

C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\PreRequisites

Let us know what happens from here

Thanks!

Mike

Did you try running the prerequisites manually?

Mike

Yes, from the pre-req directory and also ran a different C++ run-time from a link here, no better :(

Can you post the error? Doesn't look like it went through the first time

Thanks!

Mike

Hopefully a screen cap attached ...

Ok, this is scary ... I just upgraded by Win7 Ultimate games PC to the latest Command 1.061 and it now suffers the same crash! You click on the icon and immediately Windows AppCrash.

Any thoughts?

James

PS> I've re-downloaded app afresh each time, one is a MacBook Air running Fusion 7 the other a custom built water cooled Win7.

Sorry this his happening. Really strikes me as a prerequisite issue.

Are you using steam or matrix installers?

Anyways things that you should try:
1.If on Steam could you verify that you've got all the files (right click on game in library, properties, local file tab, verify cache button)
2.If using matrix installers. Try the manual update. You can download it here: http://matrixgames.com/products/483/downloads/ .
3.Please make sure you're prerequisites are installed. Manually installing won't hurt. If they are installed the .net installers will tell you that.
4. If you do launch but crash after try disabling sounds and see if that makes a difference.
5. Deleting your command.ini and restarting helps because the file will be rewritten with default values.

Thanks

Thanks Mike,
Not using steam, I'm downloading the exe from a sticky in the main forum ... 'Command gets huge update'. I assume this is a full install and not just an update. It seems to install without any error messages and then install the pre-reqs.

James

Ok, I downloaded 'Command-MANO update 1.06' from the link you sent, but that doesn't accept my serial number :( No problem with my serial number in other installs.

mikmykWS -> RE: Crash running 1.06 on Win7 on Fusion (12/23/2014 11:25:18 AM)

Did you install it to the correct directory? Reason I ask is matrix installers now auto fill the serial number field of the updates so you shouldn't have to punch it in.

kula66 -> RE: Crash running 1.06 on Win7 on Fusion (12/23/2014 11:34:10 AM)

The s/n worked only by deleting the old version and installing into an empty directory. Ran through the install (in Fusion) and pre-reqs and no change, it just crashes on start :(

mikmykWS -> RE: Crash running 1.06 on Win7 on Fusion (12/23/2014 11:42:14 AM)

Updates are applied to an existing copy of command. They do update and add files but most from the original are required. If you installed command to somewhere other than the default location you've got to be sure to point the update there as well. As long as your original copy had a serial number populated the update should detect it and auto fill it out in the updater dialog.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's not a full install but a patch. Make sure you have the 1.00 version of command installed and then apply 1.06 patch to it?

kula66 -> RE: Crash running 1.06 on Win7 on Fusion (12/23/2014 2:00:05 PM)

Right! My error, I'm clearing the old version out then installing! The install is running fine, the icon and EXE exist then ... crash! Its a long time since I did an update!

Thanks guys and sorry to have wasted your time,
have a good Christnas,
