So the HOA fined me and ordered me a meeting but I talked the new HOA "compliance" chick into waving it if I did X Y and Z. So I call in a quote from a tree guy...remove two decent size pepper trees, two medium sycamores and trim the dead branches off 3 big oaks. $4000 [X(] Santa Maria! I wanted them cut down not converted in artisanal furniture. Screw that. I bought a new chain saw because I couldn't get the old two restarted [:D] I brought down the thickest pepper safely but it was about 3 hrs of work cleaning up. I cut a cool chair out of the stump. Beautiful grain. Nice reddish colors. So I start to work on the taller Pepper...about 40 feet. It's leaning over an ancient oak because it's on a slope so I can tell which way it will fall. I cut about 80% through on a slant and then hammer in some wedges with a sledge hammer. Then I just remove a tiny bit from the downhill side and it starts to tilt.....CRAAACK..PERFECT...but the top branches are intertwined with the oak and the trunk translates horizontally and then when free of the stump...pile drives itself into the moist ground vertically and it looks like a new tree 3 feet shorter [:)] I try to hammer it with the sledge and move abut a foot but it just digs in and then I try to rent a winch but can't find one because it's not Alaska or Montana. Finally I give up, buy some plants at Lowes and rent an F-150 for $20 and hook it up to a 3/8 inch cable I had and pull the damn thing down with a massive crash. My grandson was in the cab with me. It was so much fun. The noise was incredible. The back end was fishtailing and then the trump jumps forward when it gives. THAT was worth $4000!

Whoa! This thing works? I thought it might be on Amazon servers. The health care system is all hands on deck in SoCal. This is when the clerk-typists get handed a Garand. The outpatient RN's are doing COVID screening. The LVN's are being floated to the hospital to relieve the stress on the RN's. The primary care docs are being floated to the hospital to relieve the hospitalists. I think the public is responding to the pandemic with fewer pregnancies...which was a wise move. We are now 10 months out from when the fit hit the shan so human pregnancies are down. Blue Whales and elephants are still in the pipeline. The OB RN's are being floated to ICU's and other units. They HATE this but it is needed. Many COVID positive moms now. Most of the babies do not convert but you still have to quarantine them. So after discharge the hospitalist doc gets to take care of a stable of covid positive babies. Tremendously inefficient and time consuming but there is no one to hand the baton to. So we do a week at a time on call so only one doc gets beat up at a time. Phone calls every f'ing night...11 PM 1 AM, 3 AM. It's like they have a EEG running at the nursing station and they wait until you fall into REM sleep and then they call. Finally after 6 nights of that I am off call so I have an adult beverage and go to sleep at 7PM. 1 freaking AM the nurse reads the call schedule wrong and calls me about a mom who used ganja during her pregnancy to help with hyperemesis (severe prolonged problem...miserable and dangerous to the mom and fetus). She wants to do a drug screen on the baby. WTF? Is this Joe Gannon's granddaughter calling? Leave the poor mom alone. By ra way. The second dose of the Pfizer vaccine SERIOUSY kicked my ass.

Also the mental health system is in free fall. Almost all psychiatry is telehealth and the patients hate it. No trust is established. I had one patient tell me the psych had a message machine which said "call back in 4 months. Have your primary doctor refill your medications". A teen was admitted to inpatient psych unit for 4 days after not sleeping for two weeks...they put her on Abilify (an antipsychotic also used for depression) ....and then they send her home and tell her to call me. What the Hell?
