Grondoval -> [ADDED] Solution for my Out-Of-Memory-Errors (12/21/2014 8:07:10 PM)

Good evening,

some time ago I made a post about some performance issues I encountered (and how I thought they were UI related). I couldnt test it out further because of real life obligations. Now after 1.06 got released (thank you devs for your continuous support!) I had the time to test this issue again.

And I got many many Out-Of-Memory Issues in my testings. I could reproduce the error 100% - Go in the scenario "Battle for Dong Hoi", put it on 5x time acceleration and wait for the naval gunfire from your destroyers to begin. From this moment the performance would drastically decline (memory usage was skyrocketing) to the point were you get your "Red-Cross-White-Screen-MemoryError". It crashed everytime guaranteed. Now i tweaked the in game settings (disabled high fidelity, set to pulsed time) - no luck. I almost gave up on the performance issues and steady crashes.

Then I did the one thing that I had forgotten - I disabled the ingame sound effects (music was already disabled) - no more crashes, no more performance declining. It is 100% reproducable. When I had my sound effects active, the barrage from the destroyers somehow overloaded the memory with the soundfiles from the hundrets of shells fired.

I strongly suggest everyone with memory issues to disable all the ingame sound effects and try it again.

Maybe I could give you some hint about a possible problem.

Thank you for this great product devs and keep up the good work [:)]

Thanks a lot for sharing your observation! This can help us isolate and resolve the issue.

This solution worked for me as well, so far. Thanks for sharing this, Grondoval. [sm=Cool-049.gif]

I have the same problem....

This is probably unrelated, but because the OP mentioned an issue that may be linked to in-game sounds, I'll offer it for consideration. I have a frequent strange error when I listen to music while playing Command. It's entirely possible that it's a result of my own computer, but I can't remember it happening before the last public beta ahead of the 1.06 update. Every once in a while when I'm playing or editing Command, I'll click something on screen (sometimes a button, sometimes clicking off something, sometimes clicking an icon) and my computer will hang for about 30 seconds, producing an ugly sound distortion each time for the duration of the hang. This only happens when I'm listening to music (on iTunes or streaming off the web). It hasn't happened yet with my Amazon Music player interestingly.

When it does happen, the system not only hangs, but most of the time I lose my internet connection (wifi) as well, and have to restart my computer's wifi receiver.

Again, I' don't know if this was in any way related to Command specifically (though I can't think of a time when it happened when I wasn't using Command - and I have my game sound/music disabled anyways) but there you go.

I tested the game without sound, and still had the same crash I posted in one of the game crash threads a few below (which the developers have solved in the next build). That said, I had been wondering about a sound issue myself, as usually the sound track going out of whack was the first indication of a crash coming--- I had actually gotten to the point of saving and restarting when that happened, which allowed me to get a bit further into the scenarios.

It might be worth people mentioning their sound cards here--- for me Asus Xonar DS, with I suspect sound issues being part of a wider crash problem (with again the developers having resolved the one I posted here.)

We added a fix for the sound-caused OOM errors in v1.07, using the information provided by the OP.
