MatBailie -> Pirate Economy (12/22/2014 12:42:34 PM)

I'm slowly learning about playing as a Pirate and crawling over the internet to find out information not available in-game, but some things I'm just not finding :)

In my latest game I decided to go after an Empire's home world ASAP in order to get quick income.

I stationed an explorer over it. My funds grew until I had funds to build a small fleet to knock out the space station and raid a few times. I kept raiding to keep their army in check while I built a base and then a fortress; all the while my income growing. Soon I had 200k and built a Criminal Network.

On completion my available funds crashed from +50k to -44k, but my income stayed at about +45k and another +30k bonus. Yet after another year of playing, my funds still had not recovered; they're still at about -40k.

Does anyone have any pointers on understanding this? Is it a bug, is it intended? Was rushing out a Criminal Network on an Empire's home world a poor choice economically? Would I have been better off with a Fortress and a "Raider" in orbit to keep the troops at bay?

I would have attached save game files, but I still haven't made enough posts :)

Cheers,
Mat.
