x6ftundx_slith -> Upgrade or blow it out? (4/1/2001 5:39:00 AM)

So when we do get 5.0 should we blow out what we have out and start over or just upgrade? So what happens if we download 5.0 from the website and already bought the cd (from the CD can we just install the mega-campagin and scenarios seperatly once we get it)? Commando Solo

I plan on downloading the upgrade because it will be about 2 weeks before I get the CD and I can't wait that long. :D Figmo

I plan on trying to have both 4.5 and 5.0 on my HD ....at leasts until any offers for PBEM with 4.5 stop coming in .. BUT ..i am a compleat computer idiot... anybody want to post the obviously simple and straight forward way to change the files names so I can do this .. It is honestly a mystery to me ... but i catch on fast ... Thanks

Ver 5 will overwrite most of the existing scenarios with new version, but saved games (including email games) should able to be transfered and continued. Campaigns may be a different story, but I'd back up the SAVE directory and give it a try.

Paul 5.0 and 4.5 will be secure PBEM compatible ? and if i misunderstood , can i just rename the 4.5 version into another directory or something like that them make a new shortcut to the desktop ..and then just load the full 5.0 and mega campaign from the disk ? and whats the best way to rename the 4.5 files ?

The easiest way is to highlight the folder in explorer then select it once - you should be able to type in a new name. Then change that part of the path in your shortcut to the new name. To do that just right click the shortcut and select properties - the "Shortcut" tab will show the path. There should also be an option in the install from the CD to type in a different folder name - but I'm sure about that. Figmo

I've had as many as 5 versions of the game on my system. I've always been able to select a different folder name when installing the game. Upgrade patches were took special care to ensure that they installed correctly.

Paul V has previously indicated that V5.0 and the mega-campaign are two completely different files and can be installed or not at your discretion.

Am I understanding this wrong or you’re saying that we will be able to continue our current 4.5v PBM on 5.0v? This will be great!

Yes, you will.
