Saburo -> Advice on playing Brits in Long Campaign? (12/27/2014 6:04:58 AM)

I've only played a bit as the British/Commonwealth but after having played as Germans, Americans, & Japanese I'm struck by the weakness of Brit infantry. The platoon HQ is not a full squad & even the regular squads only have bren's & bolt action rifles. So it seems they have far less firepower.

I assume I'm missing the positives & the tactics that I should be using, therefore i am asking for some help.

Tally Ho!???

Firstoff, what year are you in? Because the British OOB is probably the one amongst the "major powers" that upgrades most dramatically from the campaign. That includes with infantry. The average British unit of 1942 is not the same as the average one of 1940, let alone 1939 v. 1945.

As for weapons, I don't see the problems you've had. The Lee-Enfield is one of the better bolt action rifles in the game, at least as far as I have seen. It certainly outclasses or equals the German Kar or the Japanese '99, let alone that of many, many others (the Vichy Lebel, the Italian ones, or God Forbid the Mauser...). As for the Bren, it isn't as powerful as the German MGs or the American MMG/HMGs. But it packs a respectable wallop for an LMG, well above that of the Japanese. So use them for what it is, not what it isn't. Let your actual HMGs take up that work.

I'd also say that one of the places the British tend to be stronger in is their infantry artillery) like the mortars) and things like their experience and morale modifiers. That and their CQC preference. Use those things to your advantage.

So pound the enemy from afar and then get in close to deal the killing blow with LMG, SMG, and Grenade. If not, stay back and pick the enemy off with the Lee Enfield and the Bren.

Hope this helps.
