AlexGGGG -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (2/21/2015 8:28:38 AM)

I specifically checked for expenditures, and no weapons expended. OK I will look into what happens as soon as I finish actually playing.

That made me laugh.

The airliners are pretty frustrating. Everyone's on recurring Ferry missions and well within their max range. I'll try to investigate further, but I may need some help. Maybe once the 1.07 rush is over, one of the devs can take a look.

AlexGGGG -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (2/23/2015 12:07:00 PM)

I have just spotted one of commercial aircraft flying at 300 ft altitude. Unfortunately it ran out of fuel before I identified it. What would be its fuel burn at 300 ft? Are you sure ferry altitudes are not set somehow?

AlexGGGG -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (2/24/2015 4:45:57 PM)

Well,

Weather is PITA, because automatic ASuW/Ground patrols don't work in bad weather, and I had to micromanage helos waay more than I liked.

Indonesian amphib group was not able to make it in time; not sure because I damaged some of them or just because they are too slow.

Automatic refueling is PITA, and missions are too distant to be able to work without refueling. I'd rather you move Indonesia somewhat closer to Australia, really.

Lost Perth FFG to aircraft/missiles. Lost multiple helos to MANPADs.

F-35Bs really made no difference whatsoever. Most of AAW encounters were handled by SAMs.

All in all, mixed impression. The scenario, admittedly interesting, as it is needs too much micromanagement for my liking.

AlexGGGG -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (2/24/2015 5:29:45 PM)

As far as aircraft goes, this is probably a bug when the aircraft ferries at 300 ft with much higher fuel burn than normal.

I just filed a bug report, http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3809233

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (2/24/2015 7:13:23 PM)

Thanks for the bug report.

Re the rest of it.....
Not much I can do about Australia's location. Personally, I wish it were closer to the states, the 14 hour flight is a bit long!
The Indonesian phibs aren't going to get to Sumba before scenario end, they're just targets.
The weather is supposed to complicate things. I've got decently long periods of good weather, interspersed with short periods of utter crap. Pretty consistent with my experience in the tropics.

AlexGGGG -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (2/24/2015 7:54:08 PM)

When I was playing, I set up a cleanup mission covering the entire island. This is what I normally do in similar situations. The mission is ASuW patrol (Ground-only), then I assign whatever aircraft I consider spare/available to that mission with appropriate loadouts. The targets get detected, identified, and killed as the aircraft arrives. The aircraft then returns to reload, rinse, repeat, and this continues hopefully until the territory is clean, fully in background. This leaves me free to designate priority targets and manage whatever other aspects of the war there are.

With your scenario, I got basically all helos sitting on top of their targets until bingo fuel; so that required micromanagement of, well, eight or so helos over multiple targets, kind of cumbersome to play. I then did a small scale test, and eventually filed it as another bug report - http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3809325 - if you have ten minutes to spare you can download that test scenario and see what happens. In your scenario, I get the same effect as in the small test, multiplied by the number of helos.

I guess this cannot be helped without some code change in Command.

Made me spit some of my coffee out on that one! :)

I can also vouch for the 300 ft alt ferry bug, but I see you've submitted it already.

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (2/27/2015 3:56:36 AM)

What build are you guys using, is it 1.06 (not sure of build number) or one of the 1.07 RC's? I'm just insanely frustrated that I can't duplicate it!!!!

It also kind of kills the whole scoring system on the scenario, which isn't ideal.

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (2/27/2015 8:17:13 PM)

So, other than the ferry flight altitude..... what's everyone think of the scenario?

AlexGGGG -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/2/2015 9:40:09 PM)

I was using the latest what was available, 1.07 RC5 (677). All in all, looks promising to try with the 1.07 final. And I don't really think any adjustments are needed, on the side of a scenario.

wheecarm -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/20/2015 12:34:28 AM)

Any idea how to fix that ferry bug for the civilian flights?

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/20/2015 3:28:09 AM)

I'm going to try to find time to take a look at it this weekend.

It's a simple fix. Just go to the civilian side and in the Mission Editor enter the Ferry Altitude you want for the flights.

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/29/2015 6:22:27 PM)

OK, finally got in and made the updates to the Civilian side, the ferry altitudes should work now.

Thats' the only significant change. Let me know if there's anything else, otherwise I'll post to the Community Scenario thread.

Thanks!

Vici Supreme -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (6/14/2015 9:15:24 PM)

A last suggestion from my side would be to exchange the Indonesian CN-235-110 with one of the new, more capable CN-235-220s, which were added recently. BTW, I couldn't find the scenario in the official scenario list. Hasn't it been posted for release yet?

Supreme

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (6/19/2015 5:54:03 PM)

OK... sorry about the long delay! I've been distracted (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3850876&mpage=1) and then busy.

The scenario has been updated to the latest database I've downloaded (429) and resaved under Buld 678 (V1.07). If anyone wants to give it a play-through, further suggestions are always welcome.

I haven't downloaded any of the 1.08 release candidates yet, so I haven't updated to the current DB. Supreme, I like your suggestion with the CN-235-220. It's not in DB429 and I'm going to wait for the official release of 1.08 before I upgrade. Once that happens (and it sounds like it should be very soon) I'll update this for release to the Community Scenarios.

Maromak -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (6/20/2015 8:20:17 AM)

I replayed the previous latest version recently. My TF got close to the island and was detected but didn't survive the follow-on attack without giving away too much. This was much harder than the original where I could get away with almost no A2A patrols.

Gunner98 -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (6/20/2015 3:41:29 PM)

Sorry for being late to the party, have not been following this thread and it may have been covered. I did note in Ferry missions that you need to make sure that your mission has the # of AC in formation selected to '0' or things get a bit wonky.

((where's that evil grin emoticon... ))

Yeah, I made a few tweaks to the opposing forces. CAPs are pretty much mandatory now, and it doesn't hurt to coordinate the arrival of the TF with the arrival of the Brisbane group (if one Aegis DDG is good... two is better).

I'll check that before I put out the release version.

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (7/18/2015 9:28:26 PM)

And hopefully the final version! Changelog:

- Upgraded Indonesian F-16A/B Blk 25 to F-16C/D Blk 52
- Upgraded Indonesian CN235-110 to CN235-220 and CN-235-220M
- Replaced French AS.565s with Indonesian AS.562MBe
- Replaced French EC.725 with Indonesian EC.725
- A couple mods to WRAs

Note: I left the F-35As in player control as the USAF version, because I already had mags full of compatible weapons; the database verison of Australia's F-35A is a bit handicapped in comparison.

Updated file (Release 5) attached here and in the title post. If I don't hear otherwise in the next few days, I'll post it to the community scenarios thread.

Thanks for all your patience!

Well, crud... forgot to look at this. Tonight/tomorrow.

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/12/2016 6:11:08 AM)

Another one I haven't touched in months. Again, updated to the latest database, fixed a couple minor glitches, and I think it's pretty well ready to go.

Gunner: I'm not sure what you mean about the Ferry missions (and it's been so long that the UI might have changed). The Ferry "Flight Size" is set to single-aircraft.

tommo8993 -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/13/2016 10:40:02 PM)

Great work. I'd love to see you do a more British centric work with the QE carriers.

magi -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/14/2016 7:00:35 AM)

im really liking this... just played a couple of hours... but have a few questions... tomorrow....

magi -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/14/2016 11:58:23 PM)

I do like the premise of this scenario a lot… And I am also enjoying playing in this region it using Australian forces… I think it's great that you have all the civilians units is it adds to the ambience....
I do wish you had some basic doctrine patrol missions up for both sides at the beginning… It just seems more realistic… To me anyhoo.....
As mentioned by others.. I believe.... I would like a more refined briefing.... And I must've admit.. I do not understand why did Brisbane group is so far away from the area of operation… I believe it should be moved closer.... Or some explanation as to why it is in start location....

magi -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/19/2016 11:01:28 PM)

it started running real slow for me.... i dont know why... its not that big... downloading and starting over....

cf_dallas -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/20/2016 3:30:12 PM)

Brisbane sortied from Sydney.... Which is quite a ways from the combat zone. :-) I thought I covered that in the brief or the scenario description, I'll take a look.

magi -> RE: Operation Balpara 2019 (3/21/2016 5:09:37 AM)

ok....
